Here is where we can discuss Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan chapters 16-23.
DO NOT post any spoilers from further along in the book, this is just for chapters 16-23. Discussing events from these chapters and previous ones though is perfectly fine.

Okay I just finished chapter 20. I knew I didn't like Julene.

POV character-wise, I'm not 100% sold on Tamas, but I kinda get why he's been doing what he's doing. Adamat is okay but his stuff is kinda boring, although very revelatory. I like Taniel and Ka-Poel the most.

Ya from the beginning you could tell there was something wrong with julene like she was impulsive, she seemed quite powerful. I also thought Adamat was boring for the first third of the book but by the end I thought his story was good! My favorite story line is tangle and kapoel and she's probably my favorite characters! I still got confused over some of the terminology like privileged powder Mage etc! Sometimes I get confused what powers each one although each privileged has different power I think!

I am on chapter 21. I thought the chapter of Taniel going to assassinate his friend Bo was the best writing in the book so far. The first moment of true emotion I felt from one of the characters. And the first time I felt something for one of the characters. There have also been a few moments between Taniel and his father that I have liked. One was when his father sent him with the mission to kill Bo.
But yes. I have to admit the magic system is still a bit muddled to me. Though I like the ideas behind it.

Yeah, I'm still not sure I understand the magic system but I think I understand it about as well as I'm going to so I'm just going with it.

Yeah, I liked Taniel going off to kill Bo, it was really good. And some of the interactions (although they are few) between Tamas and Taniel are good. I'm warming up to Tamas a lot more now.
