I just recently started my own personal blog called "Just Killing Time" which deals mostly with my passion for all things related to time travel. If anyone is bored and would like to check it out, the link is on my profile page. I would love to get some followers, so I thought I would start a new discussion thread where everyone could post info about their blog so I can start following others in the group.

Awesome aesthetics on your blog and nice content too, good start, John. Build on that, I will be a devout follower.

I thought of having my own blog for movies, astronomy, video games, health, sport and fitness but then I realise, if I did, I wont be spending much time on the here, and a couple of other forums (cinema, games, and astronomy). I love the interaction with you guys. With blogging, I feel I am just on a stage, lecturing, probably to myself, except my lectures would be rambling nonsense! So I decided not to bother and enjoy the three forums.

But the blog will serve you well, John and a following would come in very handy in future when you release your Cody book too!

Dont neglect us though! ;) Your blog about the Bootstrap was a good one, I didnt know about that term either but of course we know the mechanisms well. When you reach season 6 of LOST, there is a great example of Bootstrap time travel. You'll love it.

However, I hate it! Its fun, yes. But its the worst piece of calculated nonsense you can imagine. When an an object literally has no origin, its just NONSENSE, lol. I hate the logic of it. its worse than a loop becuase not only is a reaction causing an action (that alone is nonsense) but the object is actually aging with every loop.

As a time travel fan, I shouldnt be hating it but its because I am a time travel fan that I feel a passion to despise it :)

I have finished the first two seasons of Lost, so it will be a while before I get to season 6. But I'm looking forward to it.

I hear what you're saying about breaking the "bootstrap" rule in time travel, and I totally agree with you. The same could be said about breaking the grandfather paradox, although I think that was done well in The Kronos Interference.

Even more infuriating for me is when someone violates my newly discovered Novikov principle. I've always argued that if someone supposedly changes the past, that they have not really changed anything but rather just carried out something that had already happened that they maybe weren't aware of. If you remember way back to when we read The Chronoliths they thought they were going to stop the Kuin invasion but in doing it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. That is also an example of a bootstrap paradox, which is a whole other debate.

I suppose if you took the Novikov principle to the extreme, you would have to say that changing history was impossible because any change would have already happened in our past and the result of that change would already be a part of our present. The only way to resolve this in my mind is the introduction of a possible alternate universe/timeline.

But I digress.

Hey John, cool blog, starting with graphics, layout, and title! But I can see that I'll be reading carefully. Some of the paradox issues you mention remind me of Tej's comment some time ago about optical illusion waterfalls -- entertaining but nonsensical and impossible. Or not? Of course the trick is to consider carefully and form no rash conclusions. Hmmmmm.

Nice blog Holly. Love the Boba Fett helmet.

message 9: by Corrie (new)

Corrie (corbear) | 36 comments I like the aesthetics of the site as well. Nicely done. The background graphic reminds me of an electron micrograph of red blood cells, or pollen or something.

That time travel fund idea is genius! I'm surprised someone didn't come up with the idea years ago. I am considering joining as well.

I *love* the blog, Holly! I'm going to recommend it to some of the YA readers I've encountered who are SF fangirls...and who would agree that the genre just doesn't get enough love from our gender.

Hmm...I've been working on Book Two of CHRONOS, Pendulum Past, this week and Kate spotted a green VW Bus during her recent jump back to Dallas, 1963. It was in this big dirt parking lot right behind the pergola atop a grassy knoll, about a block away from the Texas Schoolbook Depository. She didn't think anything of it at the time, since she was looking for a powder-blue Ford Fairlane. Maybe she should have peeked in the windows as she passed by...

If you haven't read the Time Hunters series, then those pictures probably don't make a lot of sense. The green campervan is called Bertha, and it is Uncle Percy's favorite time travel vehicle (one of five in his collection). I know that campervan will show up in other historical photos, I just haven't found them yet.

Rysa, I tried to find a good picture of the grassy knoll to see if the campervan would be there, but I just haven't found a very good one yet. Stay tuned.

message 17: by Rysa (new)

Rysa Walker (rysawalker) | 86 comments It's there, John. Check out this aerial view. I've circled the van in green -- Kate's paternal grandparents are in the Ford Fairlane that's circled in blue.

Just ignore the red lines. A conspiracy theorist who lacked the advantage of time-travel marked all over this picture.

message 18: by Paul (new)

Paul | 341 comments Excellent work, Travelers. I'm sure that same campervan was at Woodstock six years later. The question is, which one is it? Photo images seem to be obscured by mud and smoke.

Okay, that is just freaky. Any chance you could send me that photo so I can put it on my blog? I would be happy to give you credit and perhaps even mention the upcoming book.

message 23: by Rysa (new)

Rysa Walker (rysawalker) | 86 comments The original is here.

The van's not in *that* shot, however -- clearly they'd already packed up and moved on to this van convention of some sort. (Third row up, near the center.)

Rysa haz mad Photoshop skillz.

Pretty sure the guy over at JFKMurderSolved doesn't have any original rights to that photo -- and I cheerfully grant rights to my "remixed" version thereof with or without attribution. :)

I used to blog back when LiveJournal was active. In fact, all the real-life friends I have that are not co-workers are a direct result of my blogging days on LJ (even my husband). I miss that sort of day-to-day connection with everyone that doesn't exist now that everyone's migrated to FaceBook. I do wish GoodReads was a little more blog-friendly. There's the "writings" section of GoodReads, but it gets buried on the site. And with Google eliminating their RSS Reader in July, I don't know how I'm going to keep up with interesting blogs that are out there ... like yours, John.

Fun blog, John. I love all your time travel van sightings. :P

Of course I've pimped my website Andy's Anachronisms http://www.timetravelreviews.com here before. I was "blogging" back in 1999 before I even knew what that was. It's funny because in the 14 years since I started hand coding my website the technology to automatically blog has so outstripped me, I am in the process of converting my website to a wordpress blog just to make it easier to maintain.

I also blog on non-timetravel related things over at my site http://sooguy.com

John, I passed one of those camper vans on the street today. My first thought was to wonder what in the world is happening in the history of Tulsa, Oklahoma, today to warrant a visit from the camper van.

You only need worry if it is sour-apple green, the color of "Bertha." Any other color is just a normal campervan.

message 34: by Rysa (new)

Rysa Walker (rysawalker) | 86 comments Adding the CHRONOS Files blog to our growing list. It's more history oriented than time-travel, since I'm trying to encourage kids to write with primary sources, but does have the TT motif to tie it in with the series.

Hey, Andy & Tej!

Us dinosaurs aren't dead yet. Yes, Google Volcanic eruptions have marginalized us, and that asteroid impact does look bad, the way it turned everything BLACK, but my tiny hands and HUGE JAWS say Never Give Up! CHOMP! My http://a47.info/ is such a train wreck that I had to devote a mirror site just to enable comments. But don't be pessimists, guys! Those destructive pressure waves from what Fox news is calling the Dino Killer asteroid really cleared out my sinuses! Global wildfires? Nonsense! My Brontosaurus beef is now cooked medium-well just the way I like it. Tsunamis? Well, my significant other has often complained that I could use a bath. Bonus! @hg47

M.D. After all that time travel reading, I'd better see you make book club reading suggestions for us in the future!

Murderless mysteries? See ... that's why I stopped reading mysteries. I hate that they all have to start with a murder. That kind of hurts my soul a little bit (or something like that). I might become a mystery lover again if they weren't all about murder.

A new suggestion thread is usually up a month before we need a new book. Since we're set with reading material through the end of August, I'll create a new suggestion thread at the beginning of August. Hold on to your recommendation and I'll post a link in the next newsletter.
