Meneniareads (nenia) | 17 comments By colors! It looks so pwetty when it's color-organized!

I'm in the middle of moving, so maybe I'll add pics when I'm all done.

I'd love to see peoples bookshelves!

Rebecca (flusen) | 117 comments Well, then I'll be the first to show... O:
I sort them by author's last name and hardcover/paperback and German/English/other languages. Was thinking of going for colour-organising but meh. I was also thinking of grouping them according to their height/width, but nah. Also this isn't really necessary for the German books anyway as they've mostly got similar sizes. ^^
Oh yeah, and I have one shelf for manga and one for more text-based books. :P Some of the larger books have also found their way over there.

As you can see I also keep my extensive collection of cosmetics (mostly nail polish) in my bookshelf. And I didn't bother to put those bags away. heh.

I thought about organising by colour but my OCD kicked in and they have to be organised by author's surname. Fiction separated from non fiction. I'm painting my bookcases this weekend so I'll probably post pics when they're all prettified!

I have some more series that do this (Sailor Moon, for example). But I put them in the back in favour of the newer series I'm currently reading and the ones I really like. I also had a subscription of some German manga magazine (with 5 series or so, 1 chapter each month) until I felt like I'd outgrown it/needed the money ( :'/ ) and those issues also formed a complete picture each year. But I put them away cause I needed the space, even though it's not that well-organised yet, as you can see. ^^" (the lower part of the left bookshelf).

I'm still not sure if I wouldn't rather sort books of the same author by (first published) date instead of title... xD For now I'm staying with the titles. Guess I'm too lazy to check all the dates. :D
Did I mention that those different sizes of the English books really annoy me? XD I'm really curious about how all of your shelves look like. ^^

My bookshelves look a mess for that very reason! It would look so much prettier if they were all the same size. At the same time the messiness of the different sizes has an oddly nice look sometimes.

message 6: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (flusen) | 117 comments Oha! For some reason I missed this. O_o

But you have pretty bookshelves. :) And the books don't look like they have very different heights/widths. Well, at least I thought it would be more noticeable. ^^

Kelly (xitomatl) No pictures yet, but here's the current deal with my bookshelf:

We just moved, and have 1 large 3x7' bookshelf, and two smaller 4x3' bookshelves. They're completely full already, and we still have an additional 4 boxes of books left to pack away.

So in a little bit here we're going to be getting two new bookshelves, that will hopefully encompass all the books (and then we can get rid of these damned boxes. Currently we have two shelves dedication to mystery and crime, two separate shelves that is just for comic books, and then everything else is kind of thrown together, but that will all get sorted and categorized once the new shelves come in. Stay tuned ;).

because my hobby is not really supported by my parents, I store my manga in a unused cabinet in our livingroom, I organize it by size and series, then I keep the books in my room...ergh, total mess. I feel inadequate looking at those pics above .//////.

Grace (fives) | 33 comments When I saw this topic, it made me think about how I actually don't have that many books...
In my house there are about four bookshelves.
Two are my sister's.
One of her's isn't really a bookshelf it's more of a drawer, but whatever, it's full of comics and manga though. My sister's other bookshelf is not %100 her's... But it is full of so many books not even one more can fit there. And the other bookshelf, my other sister's. Her's is PACKED. With all kinds of books!
And then there's my mom's bookshelf is full of probably around 100 pounds of books!

Would like to know that, too. :/ And what about your room, is there no bookshelf you could use?

message 11: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarareha) My books aren't really sorted. I have two bookshelves; one built onto my headboard, and one lining my wall. You'd think with all the space I'd take time to organize them, but no. I have my hardback books piled on top of my headboard (not even on a shelf) and then on my shelves, it's kind of sorted. The taller ones are on the left, shorter on the right. And then I have books sideways on top of books that happen to be the same height. How do I upload a picture? I'll show you what I mean.

message 12: by Tia (new)

Tia (fatgirlfatbooks) I'm just about ready to graduate from college, so my books are currently scattered everywhere - I have some books at school, some at home, and some in my new apartment (which has no shelves). It's a book lover's nightmare.

Once I get everything in one place and a bookshelf or two, I'll organize them. My organization method generally sorts by genre and author (i.e. separated into genres and then organized by author's last name like a library).

message 13: by Magda (new)

Magda | 27 comments organization... riiight
my method is to try to keep series together and put books on whatever shelf can handle them
since I kinda run out of shelf space I've actually started to think about converting smallest room in the house to a nice and cozy library
and all the books "to read" lie in a box next to my bed and the pile keeps growing... I just can't stop myself from buying new books, there's always a promotion etc and all those ebooks I have to read :D (at least those don't require shelf space)

message 14: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (flusen) | 117 comments Sarah, you could go to imgur, for example and then upload your photo there and post the link here. :) Above this box GR even tells you how to embed it with html so it looks like in Chimney's post. ^^

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Haugen | 2 comments I currently have twelve books shelves full of books and my husband has two. I try to keep authors and genres together, but sometimes I'm too lazy to put the books back where they go and put them on the nearest shelf until I feel like putting them where they belong. My shelves are scattered through three rooms of my house, so knowing where my books are IS important, but not so much because I am the only one who reads them. Some of my shelves have two or three layers of books on them. Lately I've been buying more Kindle books so that helps on my shelf space. I really like to read. :D No photos, but maybe soon.

Eve | 5 comments I must have OCD coz my books HAVE to be organized by genre; books in a series or by the same author HAVE to stay together and must be in publication order; books printed in different languages each HAVE their own shelves. Because I don't have enough space (I've actually had bookshelves break on me because it was SO stuffed!), the books I'm currently not reading go into the top shelf of my closet (I must be the only girl who would give up closet space for books). Then every summer I rotate the books in my shelves & in my closet -- it's actually fun to rediscover books I've forgotten I had! When I buy new books, I carefully choose which of my old books go in the "donate" shelf. Thank goodness for ebooks or I would've had to part with more of my books...

message 17: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I don't really organize my bookshelves in any specific way. I just do my best to keep them together by series.

(The photos are bigger and much easier to see if you click on them and view them on Photobucket.)

Ma'Belle (linguisticness) | 54 comments Whoa. I'm inspired. I've been putting off reorganizing my bookshelves for weeks now, and the pile of boxes (from more books being shipped to me) is getting out of hand. I think I'll spend some time working on that tonight and take pictures for this thread as motivation.
