How does your character handle tough situations or conflict? Why does he/she respond that way?

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Karen (allergic2haters) | 37 comments My character handle through tough situation/conflict is that Anna goes through a court case against her mother (Sarah) about Kate. For example, when Anna was in the court room explaining to the judge and jury that Kate (her sister with cancer) that she does't want to give her kidney to her because what happens if she needs it. This shows that Anna has a tough conflict with her mother Sarah because she wanted Anna to give her kidney to Kate. Another example, Anna explain to the court and the jury that Kate wants to die and don't need the kidney. Before that and the court case Anna and her mother Sarah had a huge conflict about donating a transplant to Kate. This shows that Sarah and Anna had a huge conflict that brought themselves into this court room jury.

Andy Chen | 44 comments In Christopher Paul Curtis's realistic fiction novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham -1963, Byron Watson handles tough situations in several ways. One way is Byron asks his family for advices about difficult situations. This shows one way Byron handles tough situations because the more advices he have, the better and easier he can handle tough situations. Another way is Byron tend to think over about a situation and he either leaves it or think of ways of how to solve a problem. This shows Byron handles tough situations because if he assumes a situation is impossible for himself to handle, he leaves it behind, which either affects him or it won't. If he thinks there is a possibility of handling a situation, he thinks over about the statistics of the problem and try to fix it.

Bryan | 41 comments There are many ways Andy could handle with what he did to Robert. One is that just run away from his problems and try to start a new life. This shows that he's trying to handle it because he tries to run away from the bad things he had made towards others, also because he didn't want to be in jail. Another would be that could at least admit his crimes, be smart and maybe they could drop charges. This shows that he could handle it because he is trying to do the right thing and try to serve his time in jail and try to learn from it so he doesn't do the same to any other of his friends.

Wesley | 50 comments In Mark Owen's nonfictional novel, No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden a way Mark handled a situation was bottling it in. This novel is mainly about Mark Owens and his steps to becoming one of the killers of Osama Bin Laden. He states his reason why he became a Navy SEALS, and his 9 month training process. When He first saw the September 11, 2001 attacks he was very mad. He was waiting for the call to send D.C to Afghanistan. He states "I was frustrated. I hadn't trained so hard and for so long to become a SEAL only to watch the war on TV. Of course I wasn't about to let my family and friends in on my frustration"(3). This quote shows he kept the frustration to himself. He didn't go crazy and started to punch everything, he just took deep breathes and just sat there. He wanted to keep it in so he would be able to be set to Afghanistan. If he went crazy he would've have made it to Afghanistan. He thought about the outcome and he would've been able to go to Afghanistan, he thought about the future and his actions. He thought before he acted.

Sydney Mok (SydneyMok) | 43 comments In the realistic fiction book The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, the characters in the book handle their situation with jeans. Since all the friends are leaving in the summer without each other, they use these pair of thirft shop jeans. The reason why they use this because for some weird reason it fits perfectly on everyone one of the girls and every one of the girls have a different shape. They past the pants down to each other and write down their memories down on the pants. Since they can't see each other during the summer, they will past these pants down which solved the situation they were in since they don't want to seperate and stay best friends forever.

Corey | 43 comments In the historic story Titanic by Gordan, the characters handle tough conflicts and problems by talking to each other. Paddy and Daniel gets into a lot of trouble by sneaking onto the Titanic. Paddy is scared that they sneak in and no one knows about it. Paddy and Daniel solve that problem by talking to each other. "We can pass the time by talking to each other," This shows that they are showing no fear of the problems and tough conflicts. Therefore, the characters handle tough conflicts and problems by talking to each other.

Kenjo | 41 comments In Phil Jackson's autobiography, The Final Season, my character handles tough situations by getting over them and working on succeeding again. For example, after not being able to obtain a championship title 2 straight years, Phil stated that he walked away and came back with a better more stronger Lakers team strategy. This shows how he handles tough situations in a way that would help him overcome them. Another example is that Phil being a wise well known coach has mentioned handling situations by taking time to relax and think before acting upon his thought. This shows that not only does he have ways to handle tough situations with the team but also social and personal issues he is able to handle.
