Haha I read a bunch of YA books. Kind of like cheating but WHATEVER! They're fun!

message 15: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 20. Politics: A Novel - Adam Thirlwell

It was oook. Sorry Tim!

message 16: by Emily (new)

Emily | 49 comments Congrats on twenty! I've been thinking about reading something by Eugenides for a while now (or maybe feeling like I should), how did you like Virgin Suicides?

Emily Sorrells 21. The Professor and the Madman - Simon Winchester

Virgin Suicides was good but Middlesex was amazing. Start with that!

Alright, I'm going to hunt it down. Thanks!

message 20: by Emily Sorrells (new)

AMAZING!

message 21: by Emily Sorrells (last edited Jul 24, 2009 10:21AM) (new)

Emily Sorrells 23. Dead Until Dark - Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse #1)

message 22: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 24. Living Dead in Dallas - Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse # 2)

message 23: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 25. The Pearl - John Steinbeck

Always great for a quick re-read. (The shortness of this is definitely being balanced out by this Edgar Sawtelle tome. Jeeze)

HALF-WAY THERE!

message 24: by Emily Sorrells (last edited Aug 13, 2009 08:42AM) (new)

Emily Sorrells 26. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle - David Wroblewski

What a stupid book.

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 35 comments I'm laughing out loud Emily, at your comment "What a stupid book". I kind of liked it, but I can also relate to what you said.

Funny. I need lots of book ideas, I am feeling like I just might get the 50 started and done.

message 26: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 27. Club Dead - Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse # 3) Reeeally liking these books.

28. Philip Hall Likes Me I Reckon, Maybe (Taught it to my Korean kids!)
29. On My Honor (Teaching it to my Korean kids right now!)

message 27: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 30. Hellie Jondoe - Randall Platt (coming soon from TTUP!)
31. Seven Spiders Spinning - Gregory Maguire (Teaching it to the Korean kiddos)

message 28: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 32. The Best American Essays 2008, edited by Adam Gopnik (severely disappointed by how bad the last few essays were. . .)

33. The Road - Cormac McCarthy. A reread, and still just fucking fantastic.

message 29: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 34. I and Claudie - Dillon Anderson (Another book from the press. A funny story about some enterprising men in 1940s Texas. Maybe a little outdated, but a fun read!)

message 30: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 35. The Cat Ate My Gymsuit - Paula Danziger (Reading Town is really going to boost my YA shelves. . .)

message 31: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 36. Dead to the World - Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse # 4)

Still really liking these. Need to head out to Itaewon soon and procure number 5!

message 32: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 37. Zeitoun - Dave Eggers

Mmmm Dave Eggers. Not the best he's ever done, but STILL. Love him.

message 33: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 38. I Have the Right to Destroy Myself - Young-Ha Kim

My first Korean novel. Verrrry interesting. . .

message 34: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 39. Out of the Dust - Karen Hesse
40. Dork Whore - Iris Bahr

message 35: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 41. The Giver - Lois Lowry. Definitely a re-read, but still an amazing book. I think every kid should be made to read this book!

42. The Interpreter - Suki Kim. Contrived and annoying. Did not enjoy this one.

message 36: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 43. The Last Reader - David Toscana

Although I did some of the marketing on this one when I still worked for the press, I have to say that I didn't love it. I think a lot was maybe lost in translation. Very hard to follow and the plot was boring and seemed a little bit snobbish to me. Oh well.

message 37: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 44. Dead as a Doornail - Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse # 5) I think it's a little ridiculous that EVERY SINGLE THING WITH A PENIS IS OBSESSED WITH SOOKIE! I'd like to see her like someone who doesn't like her back for a change. Like a REAL woman. :)

45. The Witch of Blackbird Pond - Elizabeth George Speare. Always wanted to read this as a kid and never got around to it. A good read. I'm glad I finally got around to reading it.

Only 5 more to go! About to start re-reading Catch-22! I'm excited!

message 38: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 46. Caucasia - Danzy Senna

Read this one for my Seoul book-club. The last book we read was pretty crappy, but this one was actually really good. Dramatic and thought-provoking at the same time!

message 39: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 47. Eating Animals - Jonathan Safran Foer

If I wasn't already a vegetarian, I would be after reading this book. It's about the ill-effects of factory farming and is most definitely hard to put down or forget. Thanks again for a wonderful book, JSF!

message 40: by Ash (new)

Ash | 212 comments I've never read Catch-22. Have you started yet? How is it?

It's only my favorite book ever written. :) Tim has never read it so we're trying to read it together, even though we're half a world apart. Haha. I think the book is hilarious, but the first time I read it I cried at the end. Verrrry interesting! Read it!

Okay, so I JUST got this comment. For some reason or other, Goodreads is slow! :)

I'm waiting for a $1.00 copy to float my way so I can read it. It seems like all Catch-22 reprints are $566,948! Anyway, enough numbers.

message 43: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 48. Definitely Dead (#6) - Charlaine Harris
49. All Together Dead (#7) - " "

I'm addicted. I'm an addict.

message 44: by Ash (new)

Ash | 212 comments Only one more to go! Exciting!

Will you do another one?

message 45: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells Another Sookie book? Or another 50 books a year? I've already started a journal for 100 books, I'm on 9 right now. . . not looking so good. I'm going to have to step it up. Maybe I should go with a good intermediate and just do 75. Haha.

message 46: by Emily Sorrells (new)

Emily Sorrells 50!!!

Really going out with a bang here. . . haha

The Sign of the Beaver - Elizabeth George Speare

Another good YA book. Read it at work on my breaks. Hehe.
