The limp body flopped onto the cockpit deck. Dick gasped inaudibly as Pete's remaining eye stared beseechingly at him. The entire right side of his face had been torn away by the gunshot. The toothless grin was now a gaping chasm on what remained of Pete's face. He stooped to get a grip on Pete's lifeless body as the burgeoning waves struck the side of the Salute. Thump, thump, thump.
