Do you like fancy collars for your pets? Do they have bling? Plain? No collar? Does your pet have his/her name on the collar?

Jennifer Priester (jenniferpriester) | 207 comments My first dog had a slightly fancy, yet basic collar. It was blue with a strip of fake stones in it. Taco also used to have one of these, but one day when I was at the pet store I saw a very colorful collar with swirls on it and I had to buy it. It fit Taco's wacky personality perfectly and looked really good on him. Lately thought Taco has been back to wearing his blue collar because it is easier and safer to put on him since I take off his collar every night and then put it back on in the mornings and the colorful collar had a snap which sometimes, due to Taco's inability to stay still when he needs to go out, he had gotten his ear snapped in it a few times. The other collar is just an adjustable buckle collar. Both dogs used to have only their tags with their names on it, they never had it on their collars.
My bunny Oreo also used to have a collar. Hers was a plain pink cat collar. The reason she used a collar where other rabbits use a harness is because she would get nippy when the harness was being put on. Since putting things around her neck wasn't the problem, it was the other part, I got her a collar which she basically wore full time and had no problems with it and she never tried to chew it.
I tried a collar with Chibi and Kojikaki, because I haven't found a harness small enough to fit both rabbits, but Chibi chewed through both his and Kojikaki's while they were outside the first day they had them on so that didn't work. Even after they grew up and chewed on things less I didn't try out the collars again because by this time I had more hawks living in the backyard. There were only two hawks back when Oreo was around and she always seemed to know when they were around and would run in the doghouse, which was what the bunnies had for shelter. Neither of the dogs ever used it or wanted to, but Oreo made use of it whenever she had to. The only problem with this is she also became protective of it and because the dog house was for a large dog my mom owned many years ago, I would have to go almost all the way into it to get Oreo.
When it comes to collars, I just like to get something that represents the pets personality. It doesn't really matter to me if it is fancy or basic, or even cheap or expensive. If I like it, I will get it.

Tui Allen (tuibird) | 393 comments Our cat has no collar - she'd hang herself on it if she did. she's always outside exploring through the undergrowth, climbing and chasing things. A collar would snag and kill her in no time. I think collars are more for indoor cats and maybe for dogs.
Our cat is an indoor cat at night time though - she sleeps on our bed all night.

My cats have no collars, only harnesses they wear temporarily while out for a walk. My younger dogs Button and Daisy often have collars on, but it's my older dog, Mack, who really does need his because he is going deaf in one ear so I like to keep him on his leash whenever out for a walk so that he won't run into any predators that may be out and not hear them coming.

Bonnie We use to use a collar, but now use a harness thing. Our dog pulled and wheezed. After his eye surgery they told us to use the harness while his eyes healed and we just kept it. He's in most of the time anyway. Our cats have no collar. We tried when they were little and they fought them like crazy.

I'd like to meet the person who could put a collar on my rabbit! lol.
Lil Loll would leave them with a few scars.
