Absolutely loving this book - didn't start off exactly as I expected it to - but that is not a bad thing.

Vlad isn't very understanding and comes off cold in the beginning. I expect him to be that way with everyone but Leila. I love this book though because it gets better...

I didn't expect him to be understanding - he's an old vampire, he has shut off his heart, he told her how it was...and he has to rule a specific way. I get that - I do believe, however, that at some point he will decide that he can let her in more and become more understanding.

Okay guys, so Day #1 - prologue & chapter 1/2


- Looks like Leila is in some serious shit! I wonder if this actually surprises anyone anymore. Any idea on who's this Hannibal guy and why in earth has Leila been kidnapped this time???
- Finally we got a little Gretchen! I don't know when I came to like her, because she annoyed the crap out of me in Once Burned, but she's funny!! Could be a great heroine. Aw man, she could give Ian hell! Would love to see that happen!
- I'm not a fan of love triangles, but I really like this Maximus guy. Just go with him Leila, and leave Vlad to me dammit!
- Speaking of Vlad... How's that he can steal any freaking scene with just one statement??
- This big party surely won't be just a "family reunion". Excited to see what does Vlad planning?

So, these are my thoughts, now let's see yours!

Fun question(s):

1.) Do you think Leila's right and acting reasonable or is she just "turned into one of those annoying, clingy girlfriends"?

2.) Would you like to see a love triangle as a conflict in the rest of the series or would you prefer Leila to be with either Maximus or Vlad?

I think Leila is insecure.Vlad isn't your normal vampire. I hate love triangles. I have read this book before so I know what happens. The dinner party could of went better. I'm not really a fan of Maximus. He's to pushy and Vlad is his sire. Why go after his sites girl?? He knows she loves Vlad but keeps pushing...

He reminds me of Tate a little bit :)) I think he's a good guy, just not for Leila

I agree with you Candace. I think I just meant that he knows she doubts his feelings for her and in his way he tried to prove he cares by making her part of his line. They just misunderstand each other a little.

I'm not big on the love triangles either. They have to be really well written. I do however love Max. I'm with Andie, I think he's a good guy, he's just not for Leila.

We kind of had the same thought. Though I first thought of Gretchen patching Max back up and then after some scenes... I saw she has potential to give Ian some very serious trouble.

I so do not want a love triangle... And I also do not like Maximus. He seems like such a creeper.
I also feel like Leila is clingy yet justified in wanting Vlad to be more forthcoming...

It's interesting to read everyone's comments--I don't like love triangles at all especially with established characters and story lines. I've read this book before but the story just sucked me right back in--it is a little weird not remembering Hannibal at all though.

Lol. I didn't remember the vamp chick (and I still can't remember her name) from Marty's and Frankie2.0's performance.. i had to go back to that scene and read it again...

I'd say He was mysteriously creepy, because I couldn't decide he's a bad or a good guy... I loved this though. I had so many characters on my "that's the spy!" list...

Well we are now on day 2 and going over Chapters 3/4/5

Well, Let me just say..WHOA!!! I was not expecting things to turn out this way!
First, I am glad Leila put her foot down and told Vlad what she wanted.
Second, I was so disappointed in Vlad. I really expected he would profess his feelings. But he held true to his word. Although I do believe he feels more for her than he is letting on.
Third, DANG!! Leila walked out and kept going. YOU GO GIRL!!!
Fourth, Back to the carnival... :(
I just think Leila is more valuable than working as a carnie...But, eager to see where it goes...

So, what did you think of Leila's assumption at the party? Did you assume the same thing? Do you agree with her reaction and how everything turned out afterwards?

Oh it's a funny thing, because I KNEW that wasn't going to be that ring, but was still expecting the same as Leila...ha! I love her, cuz she has a strong backbone and I respect her for that but I agree that she sometimes overreacts things and doesn't think. However I think she did good, that'll definitely wake up Vlad

Though I don't blame Vlad, entirely, got what Leila felt... He was guilty for going to such proportions and stuff just to ask her to join his line...
Any girl would have thought he was going to pop up the million dollar question any second...

I didn't like her leaving though... I don't know why.... Maybe I just tonight she had it in her to be a bit stronger.
She's quite stubborn after all...

Yeah, but maybe it showed her being stronger walking away.
And she is very stubborn...But I think that is definitely something as a positive for her when it comes to being the girlfriend to Vlad.. :D

Definitely. And yeap she was strong when she walked away... But when certain things happen afterwards in the book... I kind of thought. She could have saved a lot of trouble hehehe if she had hold on a bit longer...

Oh man.. Here Leila is feeling like Vlad is pulling away and she loves him so at the dinner party when he stood up I thought he was gonna give her a ring to. I can't even imagine the embarrassment she felt. They all new her mess up.. Vlad thought he was showing her how he felt by giving her the honor to be in his line and she felt like a stupid fool. And used. That whole thing was a mess and then he left her there and let her leave??? I was thinking he was a stupid fool at first. She wanted it all I guess and who can blame her??

I totally agree. It was all kinds of messed up. I think she did overreact but I applaud she strength in walking away. I was a bit angry that Vlad allowed her to leave so easily. It's obvious he feels more than he admits. Leila is no fool and her instincts are usually on, though with Vlad she isn't always thinking clearing...

Vlad needs to realize that not everything will always go his way and not everyone's gonna do what he wants, especially when they don't know what is it he wants, since he's a man of few words... so the person who wants to "teach" him, change him has to take drastic moves, like Leila did. She has to make him fight for them (unlike his ex lovers did), not take their relationship for granted. Actually it's the same as in real life. Most girls don't have the bone to stand up for themselves, so the guys don't feel like they have to change anything and eventually they'll feel nothing and will move on....

Well said. I agree. And anything worth having is worth fighting for, even when you're fighting against yourself. If anyone will be able to break Vlad it will be Leila. Chick's got it

haha I love the way the story is going so far, I knew it would get exciting once Leila left Vlad but I was getting mad that she went back to the carnival circuit, since it was like taking a step backward for her, so I was (guiltily) happy when we saw that wasn't going to happen.

AND I can't tell if I trust Maximus or not. But I definitely do NOT support a love triangle at this point.

Welcome on day 3 let's talk about Chapters 6/7/8

Well this situation pretty sucks (still Marty is the sweetest vamp I've ever seen - this hurts!!). Going back to old life? Scratch that. Time to try out something else. Yeah that worked out pretty good too. Looks like trouble follows Leila anywhere (much like Cat - damn these girls can't get any rest). Okay, so Maximus is a.) trying to play a hero and win over Leila's heart, betraying his master and friend in the process OR b.) He's the bad guy and Leila better watch out...

Either way, I like this guy, so he better not do anything stupid... (or more than he's already done so far).

Fun question(s):

- What do you think, Is Max the bad guy or he's working for the big fish or he's just suffering from platonic love?

- Who shed tears for Marty?? (Admit it!)

Well y'all know I cried for Marty. What of it? Lol. I refuse to believe Max is a bad guy. ;)

Definitely cried for Marty... Really didn't want to see Leila back on the Carnie circuit...but like Andie mentioned, trouble seems to follow Leila everywhere she goes..
And Max??? Well,he is an ok guy...I definitely DO NOT want any romantic affairs with him and Leila..but if he is the bad guy..Grrr...He better watch out!!
I can't believe he is behind it, but I do believe he is being deceitful...

Btw - When I read it, first I was like.. F*ck! This is supposed to be Vlad's series... now where the heck is he?? Instead of him we got Leila and Max running around, dying... so it kinda pissed me off a little, but then I found myself enjoying their little mission... but that's for the next day.. don't want to spoil anything :D

I cried for Marty. I couldn't believe it. I'm not a fan of Max. He has this slick manipulative way about him. He is out for himself and he has to know Leila is in love with Vlad still. Why would you go after the prince of darknesses woman?? I feel bad for Leila, her old life is gone and she doesn't know who to trust.

I felt really bad for Leila too! Her life was completely turned upside down... And she was having to figure out who killed Marty and who she could really trust...
