I took that trip myself -- in 1986 -- from Gilgit in Pakistan, up over the Karakorams, in the footsteps of Alexander the Great (who left lots of blue-eyed people in his army's wake), then down into Western China to Kashgar (where Marco Polo slept). Want to see what the 15 c. was like? Go to Kashgar! Ox carts with wooden wheels; hotels with "civilization". Best land trip on Earth!

..." I just now am seeing this, 7 years too late to catch you online! Very sorry to have missed this opportunity to chat online with you Robert Fuller. I very much enjoyed talking with you that once on the telephone, your insights into rankism were very, very important to me. Thanks.
