Compare your protagonist with a character from The Outsiders or "The Last Spin." Make sure you provide specific examples of how they are similar.

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Jack Brill | 41 comments In the book "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton a character that is most like one in my my book "Always Running" by Luis J. Rodriguez is Dally for many reasons. For example they both like to fight and be rough and violent. Another reason is they both get into trouble and both of them happen to be very mischievous and are both delinquent's.

Mark | 33 comments In my book The Warlock my Michael Scott one protagonist that is similar in S.E Hinton’s book The Outsiders is Nicholas Flamel and Darry. I say Nicholas because he has sacrificed so much by trying to find the twins of legend who will save the world and he has done so much just like Darry did, he had sacrificed his entire carrier and life just so Ponyboy can live the life that he was supposed to live. Also Nicholas is a hard worker and he gets in hard situations with the twins of legend just like Darry does with Ponyboy because if Ponyboy is outside getting jumped or lost Darry can’t call the cops or they will put Pony in a boy’s home. Lastly Nicholas and Darry both are strong but they both have hidden sided to them such as Darry with his soft side that he rarely ever showed and Nicholas with his anger side which he rarely shows and they only show those emotions when they really have to and they can’t hold it back. A quote from the book that relates to Nicholas being similar to Darry. “Yes I know that we lost Josh to Dee but there is nothing we can do now Nicholas said in anger.” This quote shows that Nicholas is starting to get mad because he just lost one of the twins of legend to the villains and this is just time Darry because he almost never saw Ponyboy again because he ran off and when he came back he started to cry. This shows why I chose Nicholas and Darry as similar characters.

Kimora Irby | 25 comments In the Short story "The Last Spin" a character that is most like the one in my book is "Bad Boy" By Walter Dean Myers is Tigo. For example in one part of my book my Walter was always fighting and getting into trouble but as he got older he relized that fighting wasn't the answer to everything so he decide to ignore people who have hateful things to say. Tigo learned to resolve things and felt like he shouldn't have jumped people for no reason or judge somebody. Another example is Walter is very tough and won't let anybody step over him and he'll speak up for what he has to say, and Tigo is very much like that if he has something to say he'll speak his mind.

Ivan (ivanski711) | 30 comments In my ficton book The Demond King by Cindia W. Chima a character that is similer to a character in the outsiders is Sky and Dally. The reason why I comparied the two is because Sky has done alot of bad thing to the clan, this relates to Dally because he has commited crimes in New York. Another reason why I compared thise two characters is because they both don't take orders from any one. Sky dosent follow the cln rules which consist of not going to wizard land and dealing with any thing magik related. Dally dosent listen to the cop's instead he goes directly against what the cop say. By Sky beaing bad she has related her self to Dally. These two examples of how Sky and Dally are similar show a few of the thing that they do that makes them so similar. Therefor my character Sky and Dally are similar in many ways.

In the fiction book "Hunger Games" written by Suzanne Collins, the protagonist named Katniss is very similar to the character, Dally, in the realistic fiction book "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. The "Hunger Games" book is about a event that has a boy and a girl from each twelve districts to fight to death as for a live television show for the rich, cruel people at the Capitol. Katniss was one of the main fighter, which is from district twelve and volunteered to protect her sister. Katniss didn't have much hope, but also didn't have no hope at all. Hope didn't matter, a person's fighting ability is the key to being alive in the "Hunger Games." Katniss was a great hunter back in the district to get good food for her family and that arrow and bow skill from hunting was an important one. She was now training and about to join the arena for the real determination of being alive or dead. Katniss was a strong person who didn't give up easily. This connects to the traits to Dally in the book "The Outsiders." Dally and Katniss were also both people who were violent. On page 182, the game makers didn't pay attention to Katniss so in her view, the text stated, " Without thinking, I pull an arrow from my quiver and send it straight at the Gamemakers table." This quote from the book shows the level of Katniss's violence and how it connects to Dally. Dally was very violent and was shown by him being in many fights and the big actions he took that risked his life. Similar to Dally, Katniss was shown as violent by her big action to shoot at the people that could kill her and her family. This shows how the characters Dally and Katniss are almost the same by traits. In conclusion, Katniss and Dally from different books still both show the same type of traits so they show some similarities.

Elva C. | 40 comments In the fantasy book, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, one of the characters from the book that is similar to one of the characters from the coming-of-age novel by S.E Hinton, The Outsiders would be Sally and Sodapop. In the Lightning Thief, Sally is Percy's mother, and in Percy's point of view, she is the best person in the world. He only cares about her, and she is the only person that can make Percy feel better when he is in a bad mood. Sally has always been there for him unlike his father, who has left him before Percy is born, and his stepfather, who is basically only using Sally to do chores. This reminded me of Sodapop in the book, The Outsiders by S.E Hinton because he is the older brother of Ponyboy, and he cares a lot about Pony. He and Pony are really close to each other just like Percy and his mother. Sodapop takes care of Ponyboy after their parents died in a car wreck, and Sally takes care of Percy since birth, as a single parent. In the Lightning Thief, Percy states, "She worked odd jobs, took night classes to get her high school diploma, and raised me on her own. She never complained or got mad. Not even once" (30). This quote shows that Percy's mother is trying her very best to support Percy and even though she knows that it is a tough job, she doesn't complain. She enjoys what she is doing, just like Sodapop. When Sodapop dropped out of school, he worked at a gas station, and in the book, he told Ponyboy that he enjoyed working at the gas station, even though it might not be the best place to work at.

Ben Friedman | 25 comments In the short story “The Last Spin” By Mark Hunter The protanginists Tigo and Danny is much the portagist in :The Hunger Game” Named Katniss because both charters undergo a major situation in therir lives. Katniss is forced to partake in the hunger games because she valenteer her self as triibiute so her sister would no thane to. And Tigo and Danny come to an understanding that their clubs should not dictate whom they can and cannot be frineds with.

Monica | 43 comments In the fantasy book, Die For Me, by Amy Plum, a protagonist in my text that could easily compare to one of the characters in S.E. Hinton's book, The Outsiders is Kate. She can be visualized as Ponyboy in The Outsiders. In the text, Die For Me, ever since Kate's parents died in a car accident, just like when Ponyboy's parents died in the car accident, she has been trying to overcome her grief but failed to accomplish the fact that she will remember it forever. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy felt the same way since he can never remember his parents without crying. In addition, Kate has grandparents that took care of her ever since the accident, and they have been extra overprotective and supportive. Darry, Ponyboy's older brother, also took care of him and his other brothers after the accident. But unlike Darry, Kate's grandparents didn't sacrifice anything in their life to take care of Kate. They have always been there even when her parents were still alive. In Die For Me, Kate thought,"My grandmother just gave me permission to have a sleepover with my boyfriend. That takes the cake for weirdness-of-the-day" (227). This quote shows that even though Kate's grandparents has been overprotective of Kate and not letting her stray off, they had just let her go by letting her stay at a guy's house they hadn't even met. This represents the fact that they realized that Kate was old enough to know the consequences for herself and how to take care of herself. Darry did the same thing in The Outsiders, since he let go after the murder scheme incident and finally loosened a little bit, but he is still overprotective because he doesn't want Ponyboy to get himself hurt.

Essam Alhumoz | 20 comments Dally from "The Outsiders" can relate to a character In my realistic fiction book "The Catalyst" by Laurie Halse one of the main characters is Teri. Teri is a girl who is very mean and harsh to most of the people that are around her. Teri then meets a new friend Kate. Kate and her become friends although Kate never thought they would be friends. Teri finally breaks and starts to tell Kate about her and opens up. Teri states "he's our father, Teri says." This quote is significant because Teri has never opened up to anyone like that before. Teri's father had left them. Thus, Teri is mostly related to dally because Teri had been forced to turn hard and not tell anyone in order not to get hurt like dally.

Trinity Burgos | 31 comments In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the character that could most relate to the character in my book The Test would be PonyBoy. One reason why I think these characters could relate would be because they both are in the middle of very tough situation, but in this case my character just found out she's having a baby and she's confused to what she's going to do in her life while Ponyboy was in a crime scene where his friend killed one of the docs with put him in a tough situation also.

Michael Vu | 24 comments In my book "the train" i could relate the character "dan" to "dally" in Outsiders. dan the kind of tough guy. we met him first when the main protagonst asks him to carry her very heavy carryon bag which holds the content of 6 bags. dally is also the kind of tough guy who fights and has a bodybuilding type of way. both of them act "tough" becuase dally helps johnny and ponyboy even as it can mean jail for him. Dan stands up to the "popuar girls" and tells her to carry her own bag and that its WAY too heavy for a "carry on"

Steven Lin | 27 comments In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the character that could most relate to the character in my book Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers is Walter Dean Myers. Walter would be Danny. Walter Dean Myers would be bad at school and would pick fights. Walter knows that he would get beat by his mother if he did bad at school, but even knowing that he did not change. Unlike Danny, Walter becomes a great student and leaves all of his bad habits behind.

Melanie M. (MissMello) | 21 comments In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton the character that most likely could relate to my character is Pony boy. For example, When Pony and Johnny were at the church Johnny came back with peroxide to dye their hair. Pony was SCARED! He cared to much about his hair to do something bad to it. Just like my character Jay d in the series "Drama High" by L.Divine. Jayd Cares a lot about her hair. She presses it everyday before school and every night before bed. They are alike in someway but different in ALOT of ways.

Matthew | 34 comments In the book the Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy reminds me of Walter Dean Myers in the book Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers. In the Outsiders Ponyboy loves to read all kinds of books. In Bad Boy all Walter does is read just like Ponyboy but even more. "When I was in the last year of high school I read about two books a week and also did lots of writing." This shows that Walter is a big reader in high school and he read a lot when he was younger. Also Walter and Ponyboy share the same hobby which is reading.

Kailey | 23 comments In the story "Second Snapshot", compares to the Outsiders because in their own strange way they all love each other. They all have their mini playful arguments and problems, sometimes go to far but at the same time asking them to take the next step in their argument. "Talking about Faye gone too far and you know it! That's why it's so hard to put up with you! Your so difficult always having everyone wait hand and foot on you, awaiting all the attention!" This is one of the arguments that might of have gone too far because it talks about Harry's past/present life. This was about his on and off girlfriend who previously ended it.
