The Sea of Tranquility discussion

Can someone explain to me why Nastya broke up with Josh after they slept together? The conversation they had during the breakup was confusing me, or was there no special reason, just a cliche breakup just to get back together?

She pretty much realized how much they loved each other after that moment and since she knew she would never be able to tell him the truth about her secret she chose to walk away. She couldn't handle the pressure of being in love with him at that moment.

I also think it was because she hated herself, and so she couldn't stand the thought of other people loving her. That was why she got away from her family, and, when she slept with Josh she realized how much he loved her.

Yeah, she did say she didn't want love because it comes along with expectations she couldn't deliver on and those unmet expectations would lead to disappointment and resentment and hurt. She didn't feel worthy of love so she walked away- on the pretence of doing the best for Josh though in truth she was only safeguarding herself.

I guess that after they made love. Nastya has also thought of the joy Josh gives her. And yet that joy can only be fleeting and won't last that long. She finds it scary that a such a wonderful thing to happen might just disappear at any moment, similar to the piano thing.

So she thinks that it would be best to part ways, because she doesn't want anymore casualties in her life.

I think Nastya mentioned later on that her virginity was the only thing that wasn't taken away from her(it was the only pure thing about her) and she knows that when that is taken away from her she is left with a broken self that she totally hates. So I think she broke up with Josh to punish herself even more.

Hi. not sure how far ahead you are with the book so don't want to spoil it for you. without giving too much away i think she writes a detailed description about the moment she was attacked because. She can't tell anyone exactly what happened and she was told that writing it down would help her deal with it.

Oh okay. Thank you Catherine :) I was just confused because I'm like halfway there and she keeps on mentioning her journal but not what's in it and I flipped through a couple of chapters and still couldn't find anything. So she does explain it in detail, what she writes in her journals and why?

Good question. It's been a while since I read this, but I remember thinking (view spoiler)[she wrote her name. Something like My name is Emilia ____ and I was a piano prodigy. (hide spoiler)]. I might be wrong, but that was my guess.

That is the one thing in the book that I didn't feel made sense with the story.

What does the title 'The Sea of Tranquillity' truly mean for Nastya and Josh? How does it tie-up with her obsession with words? And what do y'all think about the ending and the last two words - your garage - :)
