Compare your protagonist with a character from another text, film, song, person, etc.

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Crystal | 1 comments in Dave Pelzner's memoir THE LOST BOY, this boy name dave is like jonnhy because both of there moms do not get along with them.
dave does not get along with his mom because his mom is aways hitting him, and making him feel like the black sheep in the family. He is always getting left out of his family and does not have any friends. Jonnhy does not get along with his mom because his mom and dad are always fitting. He is always kicking him self out of his own house, because he cant be with his family at peace. "His father was always beating him up, and his mother ignored him". This quote shows how Jonnhy family is not a good fit for him. This showes that both boy what to get away from there family and not what to be a part of there family.

Karen (allergic2haters) | 37 comments In Laurie Halse Anderson's realistic fiction novel Speak Melinda relates to the character in the Outsiders to Ponyboy. Melinda is such like Ponyboy because she has inner thoughts about the situations, describe the situation they are in, and reacts to the situation in some way. For example, Ponyboy was in a murder situation with Johnny and they had to run away and hid the descriptions from the papers. In Speak Melinda had a situation for the summer party with Rachel and Andy after the cops were there and Melinda was struggling by the people running and trying to look for safety. This shows that Ponyboy and Melinda are similar because they had a situation with the cops to get help/run away from them for getting into safety/trouble. Another example, Ponyboy couldn't help the situation were Johnny was dead and struggle to the fact that he is dead. In Speak, Melinda was being raped by Andy (Rachel's Boyfriend) until Rachel (Melinda's ex-best friends) helped her to stop Andy from doing this. This shows that Ponyboy and Melinda are similar because of the situations to be in to face the fact that its happening/already done.

Andy Chen | 44 comments Christopher Paul Curtis's realistic fiction novel, The Watsons Go To Birmingham - 1963, is related to a song called Say What You Need To Say by John Mayer for several reasons. One reason is because since one of the meanings of this song is to make a choice, Byron Watson also had to make a very difficult decision, whether he wants to stay in Flint, Michigan to continue his education there or move to Alabama to live with Grandma Sands and better education and jobs. Another reason is because since this song is about committing to an option, Byron had to make a final statement about making his decision. Once he does says his decision, it's final. If he chooses to stay in Flint, Michigan, his family was going to stay there. If not, his family will definitely move to Alabama. Therefore, this is why Christopher P. Curtis's book's protagonist is related to John Mayer's song.

Bryan | 41 comments In Jacqueline Woodson's realistic fiction story "If You Come Softly" I think Jeremiah And Ellie would be like Tony and Maria In "West Side Story." One reason for that is because both couples saw each other like love at first site in a distinct location. This shows my similarity between my book and the movie because in two distinct location that's some what how they met and became in love. Another reason is that people can be unsure on how their relationships will go. This shows my similarity between my book and the movie because in my book Jeremiah and Ellie's friend are not sure if they should be together, and in the movie Maria's mother is unsure that she should date Tony.

Wesley | 50 comments In Maggie Stiefvater fictional novel, Shiver, I would relate Sam with Superman. In this novel Grace the main character is saved by a yellow-eyed wolf, Sam. Day after day Grace stares out the window looking at Sam and Sam looks back. Sam is a werewolf. Sam relates to the mighty Superman in many ways. For example, they both saved someone they care about. This shows how their goal to save someone special is common. Another example on how they relate to each other is they are unique. Sam is a werewolf and Superman is an alien. This shows how they are related and how they act similar. They both are unique that will make them stand out from the crowd. Therefore Sam and Superman are related.

Corey | 43 comments In Chris Crutcher's realistic fiction book, Chinese Handcuff, I would relate Jennfier to Maria from the "West Side Story". Jennfier and Maria have feelings for a boy. They both have problems during their lifetime. Jennifer states," You wont tell anyone about what happened to me,"This shows that Jennifer is only telling Dillon her past.Maria doesnt want to marry Chino and Jennifer was sexually abused by her father, and then her step-father.Therefore, I can relate Jennifer to Maria.

Kenjo | 41 comments In Phil Jackson's autobiography, The Last Season, I would relate Kobe Bryant and Shaq to Soda and Ponyboy. Phil coached Kobe and Shaq on the LA Lakers, and during that era they were unstoppable and won several championships. Although eventually the team fell apart after Shaq left for Miami. In the book, Phil stated, "Kobe was like Shaq's student because Shaq had lots of experience and together they were a great duo." This quote shows how Kobe and Shaq relate to Soda and Ponyboy, because Ponyboy looks up to Soda and it's just like teacher and student.

Sydney Mok (SydneyMok) | 43 comments In the realistic fiction book Eliot Schrefer, the protagonist Sophie is like Darry in The Outsiders. Like Darry, who loves Ponyboy a lot and wants the best for him, Sophie really cares about this bonobo (type of monkey) that she bought from a man who didn't treat the bonobo right. In the book, Sophie is visiting her mom for the summer where she works at which is a bonobo santuary. There is a war coming this way and Sophie is told to be brought back to her father but she doesn't because she loves her bonobo (Otto) too much to see him all by himself and without her. Darry treated Ponyboy tough and showed his love to him this way but Sophie treats her bonobo (Otto) like her child. For example, when Sophie is supposed to go back to her father, she says "Otto. I said through tears, stroking his little head with it's wiry hair, you have to be good and stay here. They'll take good care of you...." (63). This quote shows that Sophie really loves Otto and that she doesn't want to part with him no matter what even for her safety. This relate to Darry and Ponyboy because Darry really loves Ponyboy and doesn't want anything to happen to him like what happened to their parents.

Ilijah A | 40 comments I can not relate anyone from my book to anyone in another book, movie, etc. Instead I chose Darry to relate to Riff because they both are like the leaders of their gangs. In the Outsider Darry always made up the rules and made the orders to everyone that was in the gang. In West Side Story Riff always tells his gang what to do and how they are going to do it. I also think they are both very strict when it comes to certain things and they both watch out for their gangs so no one gets hurt and they both care and love each gang member like they are all blood brothers because the gang is the only thing they have. In conclusion I can relate Darry from the Outsiders and Riff from West Side Story because they are both like the leaders of their gangs and they watch out for their gang members and love each one of them and cares for them like they are brothers.
