May 17th - Broadcast Message sent to all members.
Regarding Introduction thread: please introduce yourself.
There have been hundreds of new visitors from around the globe and due to language skills they may not be able to know what thread to go to first and what to do next. We instructed all members to make sure that they post an introduction first. If a member has done this already then this note does not pertain to you and you should disregard it.
A broadcast message is a news bulletin or information flash. It is one message which goes to all members in a timely way. It arrives in your PM mailbox but it is not directed to you solely but to the group. There is no way to exclude some members from a broadcast message and include others. Everybody gets the same information at the same time. We also provided the link.
Additionally, to be eligible for any free book offers or any other offerings from the group, the first requirement is that you have at the very least briefly said "hello' and were interested in getting to know the group, its other members and moderators. We are delighted to have you with us and as the group gets larger it is increasingly more difficult to keep things personal and engaging which we try to do with a great bunch of volunteer moderators.
When a broadcast message comes to you - be advised that it contains information that is important.

We will be sending out a monthly newsletter as a broadcast message - we will post that message here and on the moderator's corner thread.
We know that groups can be confusing and we want to help you navigate the site and get the most out of your experience here as well as give you all of the help you need.

Broadcast messages are messages sent to the group as a whole. That means the moderator writes "one message" and everybody in the group gets the very same message. They are sent and arrive as PMs.
At The History Book Club, we have a zero spam policy. We do not allow spam of any kind.
We send out broadcast messages sparingly. They can only be sent once a day to the group membership and we do not do that.
We send them for the following reasons:
a) Free Book Offers
b) Timely Instructive Information needed by group members
c) Group challenges which last about six months
d) Important author visits and discussions
e) New Polls
Sometimes the information is targeted for newcomers who might not know how to navigate the site. In that case, then the group member should simply disregard the message since the focus had nothing to do with him or her.
Broadcasts are very useful to the membership and convey directions and information quickly - they are simply news flashes or bulletins.
The History Book Club has dramatically increased in membership and we have had an influx of many, many global members from all parts of the world. We want them to gain some assistance in what to do first and where to go next.
If a broadcast does not pertain to you or interest you, then simply disregard the note.
