We’re going to steal a page from the MM Romance Group’s awesome Whips & Kisses reading game, and make a special reading challenge for the Gay Romance Northwest Meet-Up!
This challenge will focus on works by authors coming to the Meet-Up (and gives attendees a fun way to read through their work!)
Game Duration: June 1, 2013 – September 13, 2013
Important Links
Gameboard: Squares 1-36
Participant’s thread
Roll a die (As soon as you’ve clicked this link, you’ve rolled. Do not click “Roll Again”.)
How to Play:
1: Roll the die. (Only roll once!)
2; Move down the numbered gameboard list to the amount that you rolled. You’ll land on a category.
3: Follow the directions for that category. If it’s a link, follow the link and choose a book to read.
4: Make a post in the Road to Seattle Participants Thread with your board movement and the actions followed.
(You don’t need to create a new comment for each move. You can edit your original post and add any new moves in, so by the end of the game, you’ll have a list of all that you’ve read.)
Example:
1- Roll 3. Move to space 3. GRNW author book in TBR pile: Prey by Andrea Speed. COMPLETE.
2: Roll 4. Move to space 7. Mysteries or Suspense: Loving Luki Vasquez by Lou Sylvre. COMPLETE
3: Roll 2. Move to space 9. Science Fiction, Shifters, or Westerns: Feral Machines by Ginn Hale. COMPLETE
4: Roll 4. Move to space 13. Total E-Bound, MLR Press, Carina Press, or Torquere press: The Druid Stone by Heidi Belleau. COMPLETE
5: Roll 2. Move to space 15. Free Read Shelf: Bridges by M.J. O'Shea – To be finished
*You can leave a star rating to denote that you finished, or just write COMPLETE or link to your review if you have a review. Either of those options are fine.
The Rules
1: We tried to include lots of choices in each category so no matter what you like to read, there should be something of interest.
If you don’t find a book you want to read on the linked list though, you can roll the die, and try again, but you have to roll the die from the original spot, and not the new spot that you landed and didn’t find a book for. (We urge you to try each category though. You never know when you’ll find a gem!)
If you’ve read all the books in the category, then you can also reroll from your original spot and try a different category.
If you want, the book that you pick can also be a reread, but it should be a full reread, and not just favorite sections.
2: In order to move forward through the game, you must finish the book. If it’s a do-not-finish for you, you’ll have to choose another book from that list.
3: There is no page count limit unless otherwise noted. As long as it fits the category, the book (or short story) can be of any length
4: You can post to the participant’s thread now, but you can’t start the game (and start reading) until June 1.
I know! We’re harsh! Our main focus still is to have FUN while you’re surfing though all these authors’ works.
Questions about the game? Feel free to drop a comment in this thread. :-)
The Prizes!
What will you win?? GLORY! ADULATION! And we can slap you on the back in person at the Meet-Up!
Oh, and for the first FIVE people who finish the game, I WILL BUY YOU A DRINK IN SEATTLE! Yay!
So, good luck on your challenge, and happy reading!
The Gameboard is listed in the next message below.
