Write about something at inspires you. With the story I'm writing I was inspired to write a Twilight fanfiction based off the song A Thousand Years by Christina Perri.

Molly (mollymeaker) Cassandra Clare's Writing Advice -I would give my own advice and tips but this is just as good. Maybe better. Probably better.

message 3: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollymeaker) LOL! I laughed at that. Sorry Cheyenne. You were probably freaked out about it. Lol

Chloe (animalgirlsmagazine) | 73 comments Don't forget to mention the quirky little details of the scene the normal eye would skip over, like earrings or the smell of dirt.

message 9: by maria (new)

maria Don't try to be somebody else. Try to make it sound like you the best you can, because that's who you know most about!

message 10: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (animalgirlsmagazine) | 73 comments Use poetic language.

message 11: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (animalgirlsmagazine) | 73 comments Also, slow down time. Describe even the smallest second with emense detail.

message 12: by low (new)

low (lows) | 54 comments Hmmm. Don't repeat your words often, because to your readers, it stands out.
On my blog when I'm typing out my fanfics, I always find changes I want to make. I'm just stressing how important editing is. Haha, it's so important and I don't even LIKE editing xD
But seriously. Seriously. SERIOUSLY!!!!

Actually, normally there are a bunch of spelling errors in my writing, but I just ignore them.

When writing a book, do you finish writing a chapter until it's done or do you just whatever part you feel at the moment. Is it a good idea to finish a chapter before writing the next?

message 18: by low (new)

low (lows) | 54 comments I'll write down the ideas I have so I don't forget them, but I finish the chapter I'm working on because I don't wanna forget those ideas.

message 19: by low (new)

low (lows) | 54 comments *nods* everyone has a different writing style/technique. You should always be sure to do what you're comfortable with : )

I'm writing a book, but it seems like I start a chapter and later I find holes in my chapter that I haven't though about and then I have trouble filling them.

message 21: by low (new)

low (lows) | 54 comments I'd suggest a short break from that chapter. Just move on and get back to it later. New spectacular ideas WILL form in your mind, maybe they just haven't been born yet.

message 22: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (animalgirlsmagazine) | 73 comments Just skip to the part you're craving to write, so that you don't end up rushing chapters to get to that part.

message 23: by kirstin ✿ (new)

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) Hello! I've been writing for almost three years now, and I can say that I'm pretty much experienced. Though my skills could still use a lot of improvement.

1. Start the sentence with an impression. You want your readers to get hooked at your story? Then make sure the first line is a blow.

Though I don't know how to do this myself. I just suck at those, lol.

But usually they can be questions, or quotations, or anything really... with deep meaning behind it. I'll try my best here.

2. The same goes for the ending of the chapter. You want your readers to read more? Want more? Make sure the ending makes an impact. Choose the perfect words.

3. Action scenes are the trickiest to write. Have you ever written one? I have. So many times. And the best way to make the fight realistic is to perform them yourself. Yes. You actually don't need someone to be your opponent. But at least try to see if what you are writing is possible. Because most times those who just write them down without any thoughts of it only make it awkward. By trying it yourself, you'll notice trivial parts that actually play a great role in it.

And just like what the others have already said, don't skip the little details. They are important.

I'll add more later.

message 24: by kirstin ✿ (new)

kirstin ✿ (shoutohdoroki) Yes, something different. But not too far-fetched from your own story. lol

What about tips for trying to get your characters to meet in a interesting way-any tips there?

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Don't leave spelling errors. A couple is fine, but it really gets on my nerves when ur trying to read, and it's like "What were they even trying to write?!"
Also, don't make ur chapters three lines long. That makes it boring an uneventful

message 27: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (animalgirlsmagazine) | 73 comments Make sure your characters are well-developed. Filling in character forms helps with that.

message 28: by Sevania (last edited Jul 13, 2013 10:02AM) (new)

Sevania (sevthedev) Have control of what you're writing. As in, don't go rambling off on a subject completely unrelated to the story, even if the off topic part is good writing.

Use paragraphs. Trust me, looking at a solid block of words that goes on and on really does not motivate someone to read your writing. Remember that when a new person speaks, you almost always start a new paragraph. When you're switching to a new idea, you use a new paragraph. And so on and so forth.

Reread, revise, reedit, repeat. Always go back and read what you've written. Then wait a day or so and read it again. Something that makes sense to you may not to the reader. Also, rereading is the only way you're going to catch typos.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't remember if someone already mentioned this, but don't have your sentences be the same length. ex.:
I Laugh. He smiles. We walk away.
Not a good example...Lol. But it's a good tip. :)
Also, put dialouge in there, but not to much. Like,
"Hi."
"Hey."
"I haven't heard from you."
"yeah?"
"So-"
"Hey!" she interrupted.
"Hi."
"Interrupt much?"
See, I was using 3 characters, but the reader doesn't know that. And even if you know who's talking, the reader might be totally confused. :D

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Also, if you want to try to get something published, you can't post it anywhere online or submit it for a magazine, or it's already been published, and the company won't re-publish it. It stinks.

message 31: by Ken (new)

Ken (kensamcampo) 1- When using dialogue make a new paragraph if someone else starts to talk

2- Use paragraphs

3- Don't use too many Is (as in the letter I, not is), gets, gots, goods, bads, stuffs, things ect.

4- In fact, don't be repetive too much or it will not have the effect you want

message 32: by Camille (new)

Camille (chammille) | 1 comments Try being descriptive. It's pretty hard for your readers to visualize your writing when they don't know where they are in it. Paint a picture by using details, and make your setting interesting.

Remember to have fun when you write. Writing is about fun, not a chore.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 264 comments Mod
Write when you can. It doesn't have to be perfect just write. With that being said, I have the most trouble doing this. Plus my writing keeps changing after a look back at the same piece:/

Try to write everyday.
