I caught part of a show on Vh1 yesterday called "I'm married to a....." where they explore the lives of 2 different couples. Half of yesterdays show followed a BBW and her boyfriend who is an unabashed F.A. Bruce and Jess met at a BBW event and have moved to Buffalo where there is not much of a BBW scene, so they decide to start one.
Jess said that she is fat and does not apologize for it. She feels, perhaps rightfully so, that words like "large", "fluffy","obese", or "plus-size" are euphemisms for fat. Which made me think that "yeah, they just make the word "fat" more palatable for the masses. Like we all have to apologize for our size."
So, STOP APOLOGIZING FOR YOUR SIZE!
Bruce brought up an interesting point. He is attracted to large women and has known since he was young. He called it an orientation and that he has taken flack from family for his tastes. I never thought of it like that. Sure, I know that there are creepers out there along with the chubby chasers who are not so much interested in long term relationships as they are in "wham!bam!" and gone or not show you off in public.
I did not realize that true F.A.'s must go through a similar process like homosexuals go through when it comes to bucking societal roles on whom we should be attracted to and whom we should love. I will say here that I was stunned when I met Narzain and that he not only was willing to be seen in public with me, but wanted me to meet his friends. His friends are very accepting of bigger women and I was stunned about that. Yes, my friends accept me for who I am and that is no stunning, but to have others NOT give him garbage about whom he was dating was interesting now that I look back on it based on Bruce's statement. His parents are accepting of me as well.
I did not realize that so many men live in a closet over their preferences. You see a thin woman with a big guy and you don't bat an eye, but flip that and you do bat an eye or stare. Why is that? Why do we have to hide who we love from the world? Why do we HAVE to accept that to fat means to be hidden?
We DON'T!
LOVE YOU WANT? EMBRACE YOUR CHOICE! BE FAT! BE PROUD! BE YOU!

By the way, the event did just fine.
