Heroes of Olympus: Most Annoying Things That Fans Say
I don't see why you have a problem with a lot of the things on here. First, why shouldn't people prefer the Romans over the Greeks? How do can you "betray" fictional characters? Why shouldn't some fans have like the Romans over the Greeks? The Romans are likable enough. And just because you don't care about side characters doesn't mean other people can't. Nico is likable to some fans, no one is making you like him (I fail to see how you think Leo is more of a major character than Annabeth, Hazel, Piper, and Frank.). And Percabeth is plenty cute, don't bash people for admiring their relationship. I understand you have an opinion, but just because it's your's doesn't make everyone else's wrong.

By the way, plenty of series uses abbreviations.
Harry Potter: SS GOF OOTP HBP DH
Star Wars: ROTJ ROTS ESB etc
A Song of Ice and Fire: ASOIAF ASOS AGOT AFFC ADWD
So does the world: NBA NFL GEICO
But I do agree the the whole combining names to indicate relationships is kind of silly, but everyone does it and it has kinda grown on me.

I have absolutely no idea how Leo became popular, honestly

I hope this is a joke !
Why should we care about Percy , Jason or Leo ?
Jason has no personality and don't like him.
I mean , the main characters are (HOPEFULLY) not necessarily the characters people love the most.
Everyone has the right to feel close to a character , whether he is one of the main characters or not.
I am proud to say that my favourite character is Nico. (I feel empathy with him, because I see him as a person , not just a robot/zombie who is supposed to accomplish something)
I also like Hazel , Leo and Annabeth .
And I won't say Jason can die "for all I care" (but I could , since I really don't like him) ,not because he's important but because I respect every single character of this series.
I don't care about the role of the character , I care about the character himself and I thought everyone did ...

I would have to go with Percy. And It probably is because I am most like him. My dad kinda ditched me, I have this thing for water and have always loved it, and I'm not the smartest in my class. U made a good point on people relateing themselves to the characters. I am gonna try that next time again

Number five? Not so much. I have no idea how Nico and Leo became popular. I mean sure, Leo's a good laugh once and a while, but aside from building the ship, he isn't that big of a deal. Nico? Has there been enough action with Nico for anyone to REALLY like him? Annabeth I do like, however, because she is a kick-butt smart girl. However she is a bit moony over Percy, which I don't like. Nothing is really wrong with Piper but I prefer Jason or Percy...
Number four **cough cough** how are all Romans evil? Octavian, yes. The rest? Not so much. Reyna is trying to help the seven, for god's sake. She sure isn't evil.
Three. I agree. Totally. I mean, I heard one where someone said that all of the seven died in Tartarus. Say what?
Two. I use some of those because typing Mark of Athena over and over when writing these things gets annoying and people understand you when you write MOA.
I liked the idea, though.

1) I hate/can't stand/find annoying (fill in character name here).
You're entitled to your opinion but, seriously, Why? I'm noticing that when fans complain about a fictional character it really boils down to the fan, not the character. You're not going to relate to every human being you ever meet, so why do you expect to relate to every fictional character that you read? That fact that you get some, but not all, of the characters in a story indicates that they are realistically written. And if you're finding you have energy to hate a fictional character, then I worry for how you spend your energy in real life. You're going to have to work with, live with, maybe even raise people that you don't relate to or don't like. Too many people focus too much energy on what they don't like in people. This is toxic and contagious behavior and it can poison a team, a company, or household in a very painful manner.
The trick is to avoid the "I don't like them" conclusion for as long as you can. And you do this by constantly looking for things you DO like. We all have good and bad in us. When you are getting to know somebody, you will find the traits that you are looking for and usually overlook the rest. So look for the good.
2) Criticisms on relationships: "They're so different", "they have nothing in common", "they're incompatible", "he/she should be with her/him"...
See everything I said in #1. Also consider that, just because you don't understand the dynamics of a relationship, doesn't mean they don't work. Stop wasting your time sharing the reasons you think it doesn't work and look deeper to figure out WHY it does. That's for fictional relationships. In real-world relationships (not including your own) you're better off just accepting that a couple is a couple and get on with your life. This works good enough for fictional relationships too.
Again, this is a behavior that too many people engage in and all it accomplishes is to alienate people. If you're gonna talk about somebody else's relationship, then look for what's good about it. If you're not going to do that, then just accept it, keep your mouth shut, and move on with your life.
And I have to say, that these aren't so annoying in isolated cases. They're annoying because such conversations have COMPLETELY taken over the discussion forums. Seriously, all the time and money you spend to read these stories and all you get out of them is "I don't like her", or "they are such a cute couple". Try a little harder, please.
I have to agree with the original poster's #1 and #2, though. If you're going to abbreviate anything, the way to do it is to write out the whole name the first time you use it, then put the abbreviation in parenthesis. Like this The Lost Hero (TLH); Mark of Athena (MOA). That convention has been used for a long, long time and it works.
Combining names to create a nickname for the couple: It wasn't cute when the tabloids first did it to Brad and Angelina, it's not cute now either. I expect more from people who read actual books.

This is funny. I can totally relate. Thanks for owning it.

Bravo. Very insightful.

TotallY! She is the BEST!!!!!

Seven Demigods shall answer the call
To storm or fire the world must fall
An oath to keep with final breath
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death

But here's the reason I'm posting, 'cause it kinda made me laugh.
1. Did notice you (or possibly a seriously off auto-correct, those things are weird) grabbed the wrong word, and got bazaar instead of bizarre. Fair enough.
2. Did notice that someone in a kinda overheated attempt to discredit your arguments tried to out-nerd you. To the guy: good attempt. But mate, probably ought to know what you're talking about first, 'cause though you said it's not, bazaar actually is a word.
... This is not awkward at all.
And also, 'cause it's the second time I've seen the same thing today, why has everyone gone all touchy over the mention of Hitler? Are we that soft? Or did I miss something... (It happens a lot.)

Love: Percy, Annabeth, Reyna, Greeks
Like: Frank, Hazel, Nico, Leo
Hate: Jason, Piper, Romans

I get what you mean about people obsessing with a character dying. There is more to character development than killing off someone. Personally I don't wish for any of the main characters death but I do see how sacrifice is and should be a major theme in this series. Whether it's a major or minor character so long as it's executed right (like Silena and Beckendorf) I won't complain.
Moving on to favoring minor characters. Supposibly all 7 demigods are main characters. How people came to favor Leo and put him on equal footing with Percy and Jason is beyond me. I think he is okay but I don't think he is above the other ones.
Well most of these minor characters are used as plot/character devises.
a. Nico interests me because he is an enigma and an outcast among his people despite being a child of one of the big three. In PJ series he became like a little brother to Percy, but unlike with Tyson he didn't have the need to shelter him from all evils. At some point he started seeing him more as an equal.
b. Thalia, as another child of the big three became a character of interest because we still didn't know if the prophecy was about her. By the time she joined the Hunters she had developed a sibling relationship with Percy. You got to see a different side of being a child of the big three though her.
c. Characters like the stroll brothers were there for comic relief so it was always nice to have there around.
d. Clarisse although didn't have the best personality was still pretty honorable and badass you can't help but respect that, same with Reyna. I guess you see enough of them that at some point they stop being part of the backgound.
4. Romans
I don't hate Romans I actually thought it was refreshing to see a different demigod way of life. Son of Neptune is actually one of my favorite books from this series.
3. Predictions
Yeah, some of these are better off as fanfics rather than discussion topics. Still with the ambiguity of the prophecies it is understandable why people try to find a connection or foreshadowing in the tiniest detail (example how many would have predicted Calypso x Leo or Nico revelation)
2. Abbreviations
You know I actually started using them because in certain sites you are only allowed to write x-amount of characters so it was more out of necessity. So no that doesn't really bother me.
3. Shipping names
I have nothing to say about combining names. I don't care but I do find it amusing how some people will fight for the "correct" ship name. I still don't know if it's Lypso or Caleo, again don't care I know what you mean by either name.

i am sorry but that whole thing just sen tme the wrong whay! and sorry for speliing things whrong -.-

Straight up dude you were right ONLY and ONLY in your very first sentence in your useless speech-
"Not everybody will agree with me, but just to start this off, people should stop saying saying a lot of things."
You Hypocrite.

Then WHY spreading the Hate around mate?

Neha (Athena) (Queen Elinor) wrote: "And I also noticed right now you gave The House Of Hades 5 stars Like do you even make any sense??"
I think he just hates the fans, not the overall series.

I meant that he should accept the fact that this series is as much for Romans as it is for Greeks.
Camp Jupiter = Camp Half Blood.

Oh great. NOW I read this post *facepalm*. Thanks a lot for clearing it up!

I think that he"s funny and entertaining.
I agree with Nano when he/she says that we have the right to love side characters and it is true. Nico is awesome to me and I still love Luke even if he's dead regardless. Jason does not interest me at all because he has no personality for me to like him and you can call me anything you want but I don't like Frank or Hazel I know that Hazel has died and Franks life in a piece of driftwood but no, I don't like them at all.

It's okay, people always spell things wrong when they're angry.

*headdesk headdesk headdesk* BECUASE I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM, OKAY!!!!!!
And also: "Dude, the Nico thing...BEST PLOT TWIST EVER."
No. It wasn't even a plot twist. It didn't have anything to do with the freaking plot and if it wasn't in there, it wouldn't have changed anything that was relevant to the plot.
And number three: When people say "Uncle Rick". Idk why I don't like that, but I tend to call authors by their last names. Like, "This was written by Dashner." "I really like the way Riordan developed Leo," etc etc.

They are FICTIONAL. They are FAKE. They are NOT REAL. You can't "betray" any of them because they aren't real.

True, Percy and Jason are nothing alike but i like Percy more cuz to me, Jason's just boring.

*headdesk headdesk headdesk* BECUASE I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM, OKAY!!!!!!
And also: "Dude..."
I so agree on those three points. (and have you read The Maze Runner? You mentioned Dashner and I was like, MAZE RUNNER! xD)

The revelation might not have been a plot twist but it was definitely used as a plot device. See when Nico admitted his feelings it was because he was confronting Eros the god of love in order to reach Tartarus to save Percy and Annabeth. Unlike Aphrodite that medals and believes love conquers all, Eros portrays a different side of love. One that hurts and is a constant struggle. Also, Nico's challenge wasn't something physical that he could fight off, it was admitting how he felt and sometimes voicing how you feel can be the scariest thing. This quest also served as character development for both Nico and Jason. So I don't think it was a pointless.

#1: When people like Percy, Annabeth, Leo and Nico, but hate on Jason, Frank, Piper and Hazel. It totally annoys me since they're all main characters, except for Nico.
#2: "Persassy"/"Persassius" to me is a really stupid idea since I've never seen him be sassy. Sure he can be sarcastic and funny, but that isn't the same as being sassy
#3: When people compare Jason and Percy. To me, they're really different and I don't understand why people think they're the same.

*headdesk headdesk headdesk* BECUASE I JUST DON'T LIKE HIM, OKAY!!!!!!

It's only my FAVORITE SERIES EVER!!!!

For me, she's just getting too predictable. Same with Percy.

5. I Hope He/She Doesn't Die!
My blog! Most of the fans make the biggest deal about this stuff. Like when Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus, I was really and that you guys cared about Annabeth. Why does everybody love Annabeth? Annabeth is probably my least favorite of all 7 Demigods. Also about Nico. Why does everybody care about Nico? He is a side character! He can die for all I care. Don't care about the side characters like Chiron, Nico, Frank, Hazel, Annabeth, Piper, et cetera. Care about the main characters, like Percy, Jason, and Leo, because he apparently developed a big role at the end of the third book.
4. Romans
If you didn't read Percy Jackson and the Olympians, then I can understand you. Why do some fans like Jason, Hazel, Frank, and Reyna more than the original Greeks? It's cruel betrayal. Romans are evil, and they should be tossed into Tartarus. The only good Roman is Jason. That's it.
3. Obviously Incorrect Predictions
You can kill me on this one. Some people make the most bazaar predictions that I have ever heard, and it never is true. Did those people even read the books? You guys know most of them.
2. POV/MOA/SON/TLH/PHO
Lazy is the word I call it. Or maybe it's just the 21st Century? I really hope it is the 21st Century, no offense to anybody born in that generation, you guys are actually pretty good. People from the 20th Century have no clue what you are talking about, and you expect us to figure it out!!!!!?????!!!!!!??!!????? I know plenty of this sounds stereotypical, and a little bias, but 21st Century uses stuff like that the most. Just directing it to the more larger group of the category. I really hope people can just write the book name down. I mean, I know plentiful other books series, but this is the only one where they use stuff like POV, and MOA.
1. Percabeth
Bloody, bloody hell all over this one. Combining names to make something sound cute, or annoying. Percabeth doesn't even sound good. I really hope fans will fix this stuff, and you guys will spread this discussion around, but I see many of you disagreeing with me.
