Nanashi From my perspective, story is awesome at the beginning but after second season they start with fillers and overly-prolonged battles of 10 episodes, which can be put in only one episode and with better effect.. That's my only criticism. But the story is worth it, that only made me keep watching it.

Ashley Although I actually really like this series, I feel that it is WAY to long of a series, I wish they would just get to a good spot and end the series in an awesome way!

Well, the anime is better than the manga.. Is what I think. But, you know, you have your own opinion. Also, you have a long way to go to reach the end of the anime. English dubs stop at 212 but the actual anime stops at episode 366. It gets better but it also gets longer, just bear with it till the end, k?

Lliam Keppner I personally think that the only arch worth watching is the Fullbringer arch. Other than that the series was... so-so. The original idea was amazing! But it went on too long and got farther and farther away from what got me into it in the first place. (With the exception of the Fullbringer arch which was at the end.)

message 5: by Michael (last edited Jun 01, 2013 10:54PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Michael Bleach is like Dragon Balls with swords. The main highlight is the fight scene, the goal is to get stronger and to save the world. Character development is little to none IMO and is slow paced. I would've loved this manga if I were younger and a newbie for shounen but.... I guess Bleach came out too late

Khalif okay, i know that you said no spoilers, but I recently heard something from a friend that made me doubt to stop reading Bleach. some of youk now what it is, I'm sure, I'll just say that it's about Ichigo and his parents. That's all I'll say. Now, because of that, I can understand why people don't like it, because that just proves that it's too centered on Ichigo. I mean, give Chad and Uryuu a chance to be the heroes.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I personally like Bleach a lot, but it's too Ichigo-centric. Like in Naruto, Naruto isn't the only one who saves the day, right? in Bleach it's kinda like only Ichigo can save the world. though the later chapters are getting really good, so i'm not going to stop reading it until the end. that is, if Kubo doesn't screw it up.

Salazar Magdalene As much as I like Bleach there are somethings I hate. I dislike how Ichigo is the only character that constantly gets powered up while Chad, Orihime, Ishida, Rukia, hell most of the other characters stay weak all the way thru. Most of the hollow arc is about Ichigo being all emo and mopping all the time. I feel like I would have like to see some romance develop between Ichigo and Orihime but there is none. I'm not saying Bleach sucks. I love the action and art style, I also love seeing Kenpachi when he fight, but I wish other characters got more attention and power ups. Tite Kubo also like to mess with his auddience by taking forever to make things readers want to see. cough Grimmjow cough.

Nicholas I watched bleach for a while, and read the manga while i watched the anime. I stopped around the time when Aizen became the monster butterfly thing and Ichigo eventually beat him.

The reason I stopped was because it got boring. There didn't feel to be much happening besides "hey a new unbeatable foe has arrived" now Ichigo has to unlock the ultimate power to beat it. then it happens again and again. Like how many secret levels are there? It just got repetitive and felt like they were stretching it out for as long as they could instead of making a good story.

Salazar Magdalene Bleach is far from one of the "best" mangas and its terrible as an Anime (because of fillers). I understand the story of bleach but its so dull and obvious. Ichigo is the choosen one, only he can defeat the villian, years and centuries worth of planning, countless victims were sacrificed to for the climax, and only ichigo who is 15 years old has the power to stop them. Ichigo is gets like tons of powerups and can lose GALLONS worth of blood but some how he gets back up and keeps fighting. He wins. blah, blah, blah,

Deeptanshu Well I preferred the anime to the manga myself but Bleach is still one of my favorite series. Let people call it mainstream or old fashioned this series has always been awesome and the current arc is looking like its gonna be great.

Edwin Mwintome Bleach is a really good anime/ manga. The problem most people have with it is the imbalance in the power levels of its characters. For instance, some characters are overpowered, some are shown as too weak and some awesome characters are not given enough priority. The way the balance of power often shifts in the power of one character is often too unrealistic especially when it comes to Ichigo. Most of the time, he is given a crazy over 9000 power up in the heat of battle when it would look much better if he gradually becomes stronger. In comparison with Naruto, you see Naruto work hard to achieve his power and when he even gains new powers, he has to work hard to control them and understand them. He is also given weaknesses like a time limit which adds suspense, whereas in Bleach, once Ichigo powers up, it is painfully obvious that he is going to win and it becomes a battle of which side can achieve the greatest powerup. There is not much of strategy in a lot of Ichigo's fights as compared to brute strength. In terms of character development, Bleach is great but one thing I don't like is how some of the fillers can actually be better than the main plot, for instance, the Zanpakutou rebellion arc as compared to the Arrancar Saga. The Arrancar saga has the most awesome fights but at one point in time, you will notice that the storyline becomes extremely weak and too linear. Everyone wants to rescue Orihime, they fight, fight, fight, power up, the beginning part was actually good, then after Grimmjow is defeated and Orihime rescued, the fight with Ulquiorra brings another unreasonable and unrealistic power up. Among all animes, Bleach makes its hero look more like a freak of nature. He is a Soulreaper, a hollow, and now we find out that he is a quincy as well. To be realistic, think of what will happen if Ichigo decides to switch sides or if someone controls him. He will become a threat even worse than the Juubi in Naruto. Bleach is a great manga/anime, comedy is great, suspense is great, Ishida and everyone else's fights are wonderful but when it comes to Ichigo, his power levels and power ups are too unrealistic. Fantasy is good, everyone likes a strong hero but sometimes we must analyze the other side, what happens when this hero becomes a threat?
Thank you.
That's what I think about Bleach.

Vrindi I honestly haven't gotten that far , I've only finished the first major arc and it just got boring at some point. I think its because the story takes to long to actually develop and when it finally does get to the climax it just....sorta ends. At least that's what I felt happened

Sarah asif hate bleach?!how could you hate bleach?its too awesome to be hated.i showed it to my friend who had no idea what anime was and she loved it!

Khalif I do understand that after a while, it gets a bit confusing. I mean, first Ichigo's a Shinigami, then he's a Hollow, then he's a Visored, then he's a Fullbring, and now he's a Quincy? What is he going to be next? The Soul King?

Edwin Mwintome Khalif wrote: "I do understand that after a while, it gets a bit confusing. I mean, first Ichigo's a Shinigami, then he's a Hollow, then he's a Visored, then he's a Fullbring, and now he's a Quincy? What is he go..."
Exactly my point Khalif. That's just the whole problem, he's just so many different creatures and at the same time he's none of them.

Khalif Why is Ichigo so special? Let it be Ishida, or Orehime

Edwin Mwintome Yeah, that'd be nice and it'll create balance if they were all amped up to be able to keep up with Ichigo.

Amaya Khalif wrote: "I do understand that after a while, it gets a bit confusing. I mean, first Ichigo's a Shinigami, then he's a Hollow, then he's a Visored, then he's a Fullbring, and now he's a Quincy? What is he go..."
That just made my day. Thank you for that.
In a way I feel this series is starting to become like RuroKen. That series was pushed past its natural ending point. Bleach seems to be nothing but filler arcs now. Nothing to do? Let's mess with Ichigo's identity! Why not? If you look at the chapters near the start of the series, you can almost see the effort Kubo put into those. He did filler pages in the volumes. It was funny. It was good. Now, you can see they're just pumping it out to rake in the revenue.

Shona Betts Personally, I like Bleach but I do admit that half of the anime is filler, which annoys me (it's okay as the filler isn't included in the manga) and I think that that's only because when they finished the anime sections of the original storyline, the next arc in the manga hadn't even been published. I think that there's plenty of character development, backstory and interaction and the manga is slowly coming to a close as I speak. I'm not saying for people to go out and watch/buy/read it if they don't want to, and I have no problem with anyone speaking their mind or having an opinion. I personally don't think Bleach is that mainstream. Just because something's popular within a community, doesn't necessarily mean that it will be mainstream (or popular for that matter), and that makes me think that Bleach, along with similar and possibly smaller animes/mangas were just in the right place at the right time. With each different arc, I think it only strengthens the character's interactions between one another and their own personal development, as well as giving really the main characters (Ichigo, Chad, Uryu, Orihime and Rukia say for arguments sake)time for each of their characteristics to be shown in quite a good and effective way. Of course, this is my personal opinion, and I can understand completely where other people are coming from and say why it might be 'mainstream' or 'over-rated'.

message 21: by SHINY (last edited Dec 01, 2014 08:01PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

SHINY I personally Love Bleach.
But I think the main reason why most people are not interested in Bleach or tend to lose interest is because they watch the anime and feel like there are too many fillers and they felt that after (view spoiler) there was no reason to carry on the story and they kept lagging it on.
I didn't feel this way about it but that's how my friends think about it.

message 22: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Reynolds Personally I love bleach a lot mostly because it was a long series. But most people don't like long series but I do because for me shorter animes finish too early and I end up thinking about what happens after the story ends and get a little frustrated. Not only would people not like it because it's too long but it's too "Ichigo-central" but I like it that way because it was meant for Ichigo to be the main protagonist anyway so I don't really understand what people really mean by that but ya that's mostly the basics.

Javita Fillers

message 24: by Courtland (new)

Courtland Ashby I hate the way the story went. I dislike Ichigo and every bitch (female) in the fucking series. There are many fans who left the series due to the epic failures of the story, fuck Bleach. I like the bleach in my basement better than the series.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the manga, but I have to agree about the anime. On one hand it's awesome because you get to see all the fights, but after that Save Rukia arc the interruptions from the fillers just make it hard to finish watching. Especially since it disrupts the tension of the real plot. I feel like although Ichigo is an awesome character, the story could be so much better if Kuba would just help all the characters grow instead of just him. It's ridiculous that after everything that everyone else has gone through, fighting alongside Ichigo, that they haven't really powered-up at all. they just kind of stalled at some point and then they were left behind to be used as an excuse for Ichigo to get stronger by saving them. The action is as great as ever, but it doesn't count for much when the formula for each battle is the same.

message 26: by Amanda (new) - added it

Amanda Witherell Bleach is underrated. It would have been much better if Kubo took his time and thought out every single character! Before drawing and writing it.Then the story would have been better planned out.
I hate how the shinigami spent hundreds of years honing their skills; to only be defeated by a kid who only had his powers for a month, That is plain stupid.
The story would have been better if Rukia was the main character(as originally planned). Or Aizen, Gin, or Orihime! Those stories would have made more sense in power range and story plot.
In the end of the series its obvious that Aizen will be the savior and Ichigo the martyr in the self sacrificing act he likes to do like the arc in saving Rukia.

I agree. It feels like Kuba knew what he wanted from his story for the first big arc. The save Rukia arc is by far the best because it was well thought out, the fights were awesome and the characters were getting more fleshed out as the arc continued. But after that it seemed more like he was just pulling ideas out of his ass, putting them on paper and leaving it at that. There was no more depth to what he was writing/drawing.

In One Piece, everything has been planned meticulously over the years, the material that Oda is giving us now can be seen foreshadowed throughout the series and shows us how much of a genius he is. But that doesn't happen in Bleach anymore. When I first found out Aizen was a bad guy, that blew my mind. But now it feels like every new twist is just there for shock value or to give another excuse as to why Ichigo is getting his newest power-up.

message 28: by Salazar (last edited Feb 22, 2016 05:04PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Salazar Magdalene Another thing I hate about current bleach is the fights between the quinces and shinigamis. Back in the Aizen arc. It was more like dragon ball z with swords. Where they tested their full power and went all out on each other. We had badasses like Kenpachi show up and whoop ass. Ichigo would use his bankia (super sayian 1), then his hollow power (super sayian 2), hollow took over ichigo's body (super sayain 3). Each shinigami had a power up level where they transformed (costume wise) and so did the arancars. Now its alot more like pokemon. Shinigami hits quincy. Quincy is thought to be dead. Quincy gets up, quotes how it did nothing to them. Quincy attacks. Shinigami suffers blow but pulls a recover only to use special power. Hits Quincy. Quincy is thought to be dead. Gets up again. "dis nothing but a scratch" <-not a actual quote. (even though completely burn head to toe.) And the battles go on and on for 10 maybe 20 chapters. The shinigami pulls never before seen attack out of his/her ass and finally kills Quincy. But not before the Quincy gets a flashback that does nothing to the story line. And this goes on and on for ages.

message 29: by Nur (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nur Adlina because rukia is not the female lead *yawning*

Alicy According to my friends, they said :"Because the plot is lackluster. Recycled, dragged out arcs.

Bleach should of ended at Soul Society Arc.

Also, it's called quality awareness. Watch more shows and you'll rapidly notice why Bleach is horrible. Everyone's entitled to their opinion though. Not like I care."

Nah... I love reading Bleach

Freddy Because of the hax villains and hero (Ichigo) in the show. The concept of the series is pretty cool (shinigami, soul society, Hueco mundo, etc) but it's how the villains are propped up unrealistically only to die suddenly by the hero. Not very original by the way (Goku in DBZ). For example, Aizen got hyped so much and then Ichigo magically achieved a higher state of existence and took him out. So wack. Real talk! I finished the series but couldn't bear reading the manga till it ended.

Monster and Full Metal Alch are better series!!!

Morty Smith bleach is the best after naruto

message 33: by Leah (new) - rated it 4 stars

Leah I just started reading the series and I'm on the second book right now. Yesterday, my brothers were debating about the series and how good it was. One of my brothers, "That series will bore the crap out of you."

Yet, my other brother said something like, "The series starts off really slow but gets really good the more you read it." And honestly, I was about to quit reading the series, but with the help of my brother letting me know that, I'll continue to read it. I hope what he said is really true and I am looking forward to getting to good parts in the bleach series!

P.S. Please...... don't spoil anything for me.

message 34: by Greg (new)

Greg Yeah, I never got the hate either. Quite a while ago, I was debating with someone from college who didn't like Bleach, but really liked Dragon Ball Z. I enjoy both. Some of the problems they mentioned when it comes to Bleach, also happened in Dragon Ball Z too. I think if people like one anime, their nostalgia can blind them, even though there are many similar problems in Dragon Ball Z, and Bleach, like escalation problems, and there not being too much plot.

I think the main thing is that once some people get so attached one particular anime, they refuse to see the flaws in that anime, and will criticize others, especially Bleach. Bleach has flaws, don't get me wrong, but I really enjoy it for the most part.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I adore Bleach and was amazed how the show was. I could relate to Momo Hinamori, she and I are alike. But no seriously, Bleach was great however with anime only fillers was so tiring. I like the Bounds arc however there was the Zanpakutos Arc was so cool but there were too many and it bored me so I didn't watch it anymore. But I love how it was during the Thousand Year Blood War and then things declined since I left Bleach. Bleach ends and I miss it so much. I wish I could relish it before it ended.

message 36: by Catchup67 (new)

Catchup67 I know this is a old thread and the bleach anime is over so i cant complain about fillers because i can just skim through them or skip them, but almost all shounen jump animes have tons of filler so its to be expected

i think the bleach anime's first 70 ish episodes are great and one of the best shounen arcs out of all of them

only problem i had with the show is that they would show the good guys getting beat up for like 1 or 2 straight episodes and then have them pull through and defeat the enemy and it really got old but i knew i just had to sit through it

message 37: by Cook (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cook now Because its stinks. Hahaha, Just Joking. I don’t know about the people but I hate Bleach. There are some major aspects that a good anime should have, (at least I think of them essential). And down there explaining how Bleach lack of them.

World Creation: So lame. Compared to One Piece (Because its best for creating a world, with its own Currency, Map, Cultures, Peoples and Geography) Bleach world consists of Ichigo’s Bedroom, Dining Hall, Karakuri Town, Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. Score: 3.5/5
Anime World & Reality World: Poor. I know in anime anything can happen but still this is not tom and Jerry or Doraemon, you have to have some explanation of the anime world. Like some character or a whole bunch of people just vanished after their saga is completed (BOUNT). WTF??! And I find no relations to reality, no inspiration or historical significance. Score: 3/5
Story-line: Enemy found and defeated by force loop. No complexity, contradiction in the story-line. Its boring. (I deleted the whole 1–400 ep I collected from my friend, when I was watching 300 ep.) Score: 6.5/10
