Romance Audiobooks discussion

One of the most interesting things I've heard from Lea while on her current trip to APAC.

Audiobook acquisition reps have told her they look at our recommendations when it comes to romance authors to bring to Audio and it's a growing market.

I say that merits a dedicated topic - why make them hunt through other threads for suggestions we've made in the past or new ones we want to add?

I'll start with the quintessential Loretta Chase.

I'll second the Loretta Chase.

Kudos to Tantor, though. I think they single-handedly knocked out over half of my "wouldn't it be great if there were audio versions of...." list over the past two years.

I'd really like to see more of Jo Goodman's work make it to audio - both her backlist of historicals and her current work (especially the western romances).

I would like unabridged recordings of more Georgette Heyer. Her language and wit would translate beautifully to audio.

Loretta Chase is definitely first on my list. I'd love to listen to Mr. Impossible in audio!

Linda Howard's Kell Sabin series, especially Diamond Bay.

Judith McNaught's A Kingdom of Dreams

Connie Brockway's My Dearest Enemy, All Through the Night

Loretta Chase's entire list, but Lord of Scoundrels for sure.

Has anyone talked to Kristen Ashley? How has this opportunity been missed? She's gold!

Tara Janzen's Steele Street series is definitely swoon worthy.

I would love to have all of Linda Howard's Silhouette/Harlequin books in audio.

My favorite book by Lori foster would make a great audiobook.

I always enjoy Sabrina Jeffries books on audio. She has a nice sized backlist that's begging to be done.

A recent read that I loved so much would be great.

Tantor published Anne Gracie's most current work but I would love to hear her backlist. :)

Perhaps the first few Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn.

was one of the best audiobooks I've ever heard and for some reason, none of Joanna Bourne's other books are available.

We'll be consolidating this list over at AudioGals - we keep an official wish list there. A publisher at APAC told me that they watch that wish list closely. So keep them coming!

Yes, definitely more of Linda Howard's Harlequins and the rest of Sabrina Jeffries' backlist.

Also, I would love to have Elizabeth Lowell's MacKenzie-Blackthorn series.

There are several of Catherine Anderson's in the Kendrick/Coulter series that are missing in audio, along with a few of her historicals that I would love to have - Annie's Song being one of my favorites.

I would also like to see the Hawk's Way series by Joan Johnston on audio.

A TON of romances have been released in the past year as my audible budget can attest to.

I second rec for Judith McNaught historical romances as well as some contemp (Perfect). Also, Kathleen Woodiwiss would be great! (Wolf & the Dove, Ashes in the Wind, etc)

UF front with some romance I'm still hoping for Eileen Wilks World of the Lupi series.

Wow, scrolling though my list of books from most highly rated down, so many are now available on audio! Yay us!

Angie is this one where the heroine is deaf and there is a scene with the tea party in the attic leading to mouse antics? If so it was my favorite of hers - I laughed so hard. :D

Vic are you a Shelly Laurenston fan? I've listened to Tantor's clip of narrator Charlotte Kane three times (with the first book coming out 6/10) and I hear Johanna Parker using a faster pace than in the Sookie books ... I can hope anyway. :)

Yes, that's it. I so love that book. Hopefully we'll see it soon on audio.

I just saw in one of my emails that Annie's Song is being reprinted in August. CA's native American series has recently been reprinted and some of those have shown up on Audible, so maybe this one's already in the works.

I was going to post that if they needed suggestions for narrator that they should get Dan Bittner since I'm dying to hear him narrate another book, and this book would probably benefit from a male narrator since the hero has most of the dialogue.

Brenda - I don't know why Eileen Wilks doesn't seem to be more popular to be honest. I'd love to hear Holter Graham read them. I haven't really tried to get into the Shelly Laurenston books. They've been on my TBR list for some time but I haven't gotten to them for one reason or another.

Not sure if these have already been picked up but there are more Lauren Dane books I'd love available. I cringe to say that because to me, the Brown Sibling series got shafted in narrator category and I can't bring myself to listen to them. Narrator for Delicious is better and I didn't have any issues with her and enjoy having them in audio. Would love to have Federation Chronicles and Cascadia Wolves/de La Vega Cats/Bound by Magic (all 3 of those share same world building). Dream narrator for the Federation Chronicles would be Claudia Black from SG-1/Farscape fame. All these books are a little more on the erotic side of romance but well written, fleshed out characters.

Usually it has something to do with sexual content. If a narrator often performs children's books, inspirational, etc, they might choose a pseudonym for romances with sexual scenes. And it might be that they are trying to move Parker away from the Sookie Stackhouse identity.

I've never tried Laurenston but if it's Johanna Parker narrating, I will. That's the problem with narrator pseudonyms - I won't try it with an unknown narrator or one I'm not crazy about.

I would like to see more of Galen Foley's books released. A few were released last year, but nothing sense then. I second Joanna Bourne's books and would love to see more of Grace Burrowes. Also Hannah Howell's Wherlocke series

This is my best guess as well - especially with Southern accents involved in both series.

Shelly Laurentston can be over the top with her type of humor and her sex scenes. Love the first - once I caught on to her style - deal with the second because the laughs are worth it.

Just read new Cherise Sinclair This Is Who I Am and I think she'd translate well into audio with the correct narrator. BDSM club but well developed characters and very caring relationships. Some have been erotica suspense (rather than romance suspense?) and some just straight romance. Actually surprised she hasn't been picked up yet as there have been others with similar themes. Again, though, narrator would be key.

I would love to see the rest of Judith Ivory's books in audio. Also older Loretta Chase novels.

Thank you! I thought of another author. Lavyrle Spencer has some of her work on audio, but not my 3 favs:

Likely showing my age here, but I would love to see the Allen Drury series of Advise & Consent in audio format.

The books should still be required reading. A true insight into how the American political system works, snakes and all ... wrapped around gripping fiction.

Drury won a Pulitzer for this. I think Scott Brick would do great, maybe Dick Hill. At any rate, it should be produced. It would sell.

Edit: Not a romance, just a good read.

Merline Lovelace has some excellent books in her back list. Specifically I'd love to hear her Cleo North trilogy in audio.

For those who are I was amazed to see 25 Ellora's Cave titles will release at Audible in September!

Some authors like Laurann Dohner I recognized and others I didn't. But still 25 new audiobooks from Ellora's Cave in one month - wow!

I didn't recognize any of the narrators names and can't wait to hear if listeners find the pseudonym card being played with these titles. :D

I second whoever suggested more books by Grace Burrowes. Perhaps if the "MacGregor" trilogy that's coming out is successful, we may get some more.

I've just finished reading Gayle Callen's latest, "Surrender to the Earl" (crappy title, lovely story!) which reminded me of how much I've enjoyed the books of hers I've read. Caroline Linden is another author whose books I'd gobble up in audio.

I'd also love more of Victoria Holt's books in audio format.
