Some would call them the d o o med. The c u r s ed. Others, the t a l e n ted. For agruements sake, they have been titled the P r a e d i t o s, meaning "gifted" in the language of the dead. Quite eccentric, they would comment, but it has since stuck like a fresh label. P r a e d i t o s. It does have a rather nice ring to it, wouldn't you say? One couldn't blame them for getting caught up in the flattery of it, really. It is rather easy to let the complimentary get to one's head. What does this have to do with anything, you may be asking yourself. To which I would only reply with a sigh, because that simply means I'm going to have to explain everything to you. How did I get saddled with enlightening the humans, again?

No matter.
It is what it is, lovely.

Perhaps you've heard of the theory of a multiverse? Please say yes. It would make this explaining business a whole lot easier on my part. We could then engage in intelligent conversation about the theory, the spark of genius that hit whatever meek little human that managed to come up with such a spot-on idea. But, of course, I'm thorough when it comes to my job. So, to be on the safe side, here:

M U L T I V E R S E Theory: The accepted idea that there is an infinite number of universe aside from yours, the number growing daily. Do you know what this means, little one? It means we are not alone in that huge blank void of undiscovered space, space not yet pioneered by your precious humanity.

Within one out of the impossible-to-pinpoint number of universes is one fairly close to yours. Close enough, in case of point, that they have been known to occasionally brush and overlap. And in this other universe are people, just like you and your fellow humanity. Well. Okay, maybe not exactly like you and yours. As mentioned earlier, they are called P r a e d i t o s a reason. While physically there is no difference, -except maybe a more unearthly beauty, one mankind has yet to master without help from cosmetics- their chemical makeup is far more advanced. Unless you have abilities your government should be aware of, aside from the talent to make robot-like music and create an editable pocket filled with ham and cheese for the more simple minded folk?

No? Didn't think so.

Like humans, the P r a e d i t o s race has learned how to adapt on their own planet. Of course, their upgrading is far more sophisticated than any human's. Where you have gained ingenuous things like opposable thumbs, the Praeditos have improved their five senses to the point where they can hear things from miles away, see in pitch black. Their strength and speed has also developed past that of a human's, capable to shattering the homo sapien's bones without any effort in the slightest. But perhaps the most infamous of their developments is the freedom of no longer being bond to simply one physical appearance. There brains are so far advanced from humans', they are now able to shape shift.

The power of a reflection is something mankind has speculated for centuries upon centuries. In all of these years, one has never once managed to hit the mark: Mirrors are the passageway from the Praeditos' world to the humans'. What does this mean, you may be asking? It means, little naive one, that they are no longer forced to remain only in their world. Due to how close your universes' are, they are now able to move between them. And the mirrors are the portal allowing them to do so.

You know that superstition warning you against shattering mirrors, about the bad lucky that will insure?

You can thank the Praeditos for that one.

And than there's people like me. Most commonly known as 'Narrators' due to our position, consisting of us being something like historians. Yodas to your jeudi. All knowing, like trainers for the Praeditos. Because we all know something that powerful can't be in charge of itself. We don't age like most- The process of physically maturing stops after about twenty-something. Our abilities don't stop at what the Praeditos can do, though. But of course, I can't give too much about us away.

What would be the fun in that ?
