The first section of the book ends powerfully but enigmatically when Elphaba is discovered under the dock, cradled in the paws of a magical beast as if sitting on a throne. What do you think this fortells?

I think this image signifies that Elphaba is a gift from the magical world. Her place in the "play" is predetermined, and that she will be significant.
