Fallen Crest Family
question
Rating a Book

I was wondering, after seeing the rating for this book, prior to the actual release date, Is it fair to rate a book before it is even released?
What is it totally bombs (Rock My Bed, totally ruined my thoughts about books 2nd in a series). What if you disliked the first and rated the second with out reading it? Is that fair to the writter or potential reader?
I rely more heavily on the negative reviews for determining whether to invest time and money on it. I feel that the more elaborate written 1 and 2 stars reviews will tell me more about the book than any short 4 or 5 review posted with so many .GIF and .Jpeg you have to scroll the entire page to get through it.
I started out in the beginning buying books because of high reviews it may have had. All those people liked it, it must be good, right? I found out real fast, that those reviews don't reflect how I will recieve a book and can be misleading and manipulated.
"Padding" as it has been termed, can bring in more money for authors of self published books. They tend to be cheaper to buy. What's $.99, it's only a dollar. It's only $1.99,I can take a chance, right? Those numbers add up real quick and before you know it, You spent $20.00 on a handful of poorly edited, self published titles.
I have found that the lower rating do provide a bit of entertainment from the reviewer (See Rachel(BAVR)'s review on "On Dublin Street").

I completely agree. I do not use Goodreads as a source of getting the overall rating for a book. I use Amazon because you can't leave a rating and review until the book is published.
Also, I can not stand the reviews with all the animated pictures attached to it. It's like, just get to the point already.

I must say that I do rate Tijan's books prior to being released. I have not read a single book written by Tijan that I have not loved. Also, on fictionpress there usually a few chapters to start with and I go from there. However, I only rate Tijan's books.
Ironically, I wrote this in response to a person who rated Fallen Crest Family, prior to the actual book release. At that time, Tijan was my uber-god for self published writers. I loved Fallen Crest High... Still do, untill

I am with you on reading the one and two star ratings on Amazon before the four and five star ratings. While I don't always agree with them, they are usually entertaining and do add some insight to whether I will buy the book or not.
I have never rated a book before its publishing date. I can see if people are reviewing ARC copies or if they have edited it for the author, but not having read it and rating it makes no sense. There are times where an author may try a new genre and it doesn't work and their usual five star work becomes two. I have seen this a couple of times with authors I follow.

I love Tijan books, especially the fallen crest high series! I tend to rate books that received from authors free slightly higher not to lie but I don't think reviews are a place to put down an author or their work if you don't like a book don't read it or tell anyone. I don't read reviews for buying books I rely more a good synopsis! If a book sounds good I will read it, not everyone has my taste in books and I understand that. If you enjoyed Tijan books you love Jay Mclean
or Emme Rollins
