Krysta (krystafig) One thing that I don't like so much is when authors come out with 1.5 books...
Why do I need a book between 1 and 2?
Just leave it alone!
If it's a trilogy, it should have 3 books. Why throw in a 1.5 in there? Now it's not really a trilogy, is it?

What do you guys think?

I CANNOT STAND IT!!! It really irritates me. Most of them you don't HAVE to read but it does help you understand things more in some cases but that is annoying. If we are supposed to KNOW these things...put it in the damn series not in an extra. We've got plenty of other books to read we don't need a novella (at least I do not!)

Daisy | 686 comments OMG IT IS SO ANNOYING!! Seriously, I get that you can do a little something extra in a novella, but don't put something important that we HAVE to know to get the next book in a novella! I'm not really a fan of novellas and hardly ever pick them up.

It just strikes me as a money making thing and THAT leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Like I want the story..not something the publishers made you write for the sake of sales.

Ugh, yes! I did like the novellas that were released before Throne of Glass was released, because it added to the excitement and do add something to the story in my opinion, but I hate the thought that it's basically a money-making scheme.

Tahleen I've never bothered to read any of the novellas that you have to pay for. Do you really have to read them to understand what happens in the next "official" book in the series?

I have read "The New World," a short story by Patrick Ness about Violet's crash that happens in the beginning/before the action of The Knife of Never Letting Go, and enjoyed it and the perspective it gives, but it wasn't by any means necessary to understanding what is going on in the series as a whole.

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments I have to admit that I have never seen that happen but it sounds like a terrible idea. I agree.. if it's a trilogy, your books should be numbered 1, 2, 3. I like my numbers whole, thank you very much!

Melissa It really doesn't bother me if it's a short story that actually accompanies the story. If you read the Lunar trilogy, I didn't get much out of the .5 prequel, but the 1.5 companion was one of my favorite reads of the year. If they are full novels, then I definitely agree that it is no longer a trilogy.

Joel Feldhake (feldhake) $$$ or they need to come up with something easy to fulfill a short story obligation.
