The Next Best Book Club discussion

So I have a friend who doesn't really read much..but she really does like certain books. She pretty much doesn't like any classic literature or anything that is slow moving..(she couldn't get into The Book Thief and she is reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time and says its boring. I keep giving her all these recommendations that she doesn't enjoy so I figured I would ask her what she really likes in a book and than ask you all. She said she really likes something fast moving and likes fantasy kind of books too. Also some chick lit.

She LOVES: Harry Potter and Twilight..she devoured them all. She also loved Sloppy Firsts A Novel and the rest of those in the series


She enjoyed the Gossip Girls series, Peaches series, The A-List etc.

So any of you fantasy/chick lit lovers out there..help me out so that I can convert her to a reader!! :)

She would probably like the Sookie Stackhouse series, starting with Dead Until Dark. There are currently 8 of those out, and a 9th releasing next month. They are about a telepathic waitress who gets into all sorts of romantic entanglements with vampires and other supernatural types. (Edit: Sorry, I put the wrong # of books here. There are 8 currently available, the 9th is being released in May.)

If she likes YA fantasy, she'd probably like the Artemis Fowl series, which is pretty quick moving and fun.

There's also The Princess Bride, which is a quick read and hilarious too.

Give her Broken Soup or any of Agatha Christie's if she loves mysteries.

Has she read the 'Private' books by Kate Brian (starting with Private)? Or similar, but set in late nineteenth century New York, The Luxe, Rumors A Luxe Novel, and Envy A Luxe Novel? (I personally didn't enjoy any of these, but she might!)
On the fantasy side... Wicked Lovely and its sequels, Tithe A Modern Faerie Tale (also with sequels), and maybe Graceling.
Has she read any (and this is more my thing) Gail Carson Levine or Shannon Hale? Their books are great, but if your friend likes Twilight and Gossip Girl... I reckon my first suggestions might be more her thing...

Oh, and I forgot The Mortal Instruments Series! Fast paced, with fantasy elements, and recommended by Stephenie Meyer! Trilogy starts with City of Bones.

I agree with the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich...starts with "One for the Money"

and if she likes Vampire lit....the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series is even better than the Twilights in my opinion...by Laurel K Hamilton and starts with "Guilty Pleasures"

I've always had good luck introducing friends to the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon...they seem to get just as addicted to the main characters as I do...

I second the Outlander series, although there are parts that are somewhat slow moving where "action" is concerned. It's a very good series, though.
How about the Dan Brown books? I'm not a fan of his writing style but the stories are fast-paced and action filled.
Another series that involves Wizards and strange creatures is the Sword Of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. The first book is Wizard's First Rule. She may be interested in this if she enjoyed HP. I would liken it more to Lord Of The Rings in the sense that it's an "Ultimate Evil vs. Ultimate Good" sort of struggle.

About the Anita Blake books - I liked the first ten or so - the more recent ones, not so much. The more recent ones I find rather short on an actual plot, which I prefer for novels to have. I enjoyed the first ones, though.

The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson is fast-paced and pretty fun to read. I love the Dresden Files series too, it's also fast-paced. I liked the Mortal Instruments series too, but it was a little too similar to the Twilight series to me.
