But seriously Congratulations to everyone! I know once you got up to the high 100's it was getting harder to hit shelves. So you all did a Fantastic Job!
I know this challenge really got me reading books that I may not have picked up other wise.

I completely agree, Slayermel. This was such a fun challenge! It accomplished exactly what I had hoped from this group which is an encouragement to read a variety of books. In this challenge, I read from Dr. Seuss to Shakespeare and tons of stuff in-between! :)
I've kept track of a few more statistics than just the number of shelves and books, so if you don't mind, I'd like to share them:
For this challenge, I read a total of 13,039 pages and touched shelves on the list 1,874 times. My most-touched shelf was "fiction" with a total of 48 books for that shelf. The "own" shelf wasn't far behind with a total of 46. I touched 86 of the shelves only once, and didn't get to 13 of the shelves. I had plans (but not enough time) for 6 of my untouched shelves.
I read 46 chapter books or novels, 10 picture books, 4 graphic novels, and one play. Sixteen of the books were children's literature, 15 were YA, and 30 were adult books. I listened to seven of the books on audio (six on my iPod and one as a Playaway). I was half-way through an ebook when the challenge ended, so I'll definitely have some ebooks for the next challenge.
Forty-six of the books were from a library - 36 from my public library and 10 from my school library (where I'm the librarian). I purchased 13 of the books, one was borrowed from a friend, and one was a gift.
Edit:
Just a few more statistics that I planned to look at when the challenge was over, and completely forgot until now. The highest possible number of shelves on a book I read was 64. But for that book I was only able to count one shelf! My next-highest was 60 and I only got to count two shelves for it. I really didn't touch shelves in the most efficient way! The highest number of shelves I earned for one book was 36.

I completely agree, Slayermel. This was such a fun challenge! It accomplished exactly..."
Congratulations Luann, I don't know which is more amazing the fact that you read my average yearly reads in a quarter of the time or the fact that you managed to collate all the extra data whilst doing it. Well Done to you and everyone else, it has been alot of fun!

I have a hard time believing I read that many books in that amount of time, too! For much of the challenge, I kept three books going at once - one on my iPod which I plugged in to my car anytime I was driving anywhere, a paperback to carry around in my purse, and a longer hardback to read in the evenings. I also did little things like read on my lunch hour and bring a book to the TV with me and read during commercials. Even short reading times like that really added up.
Also, I never read any huge books like The Stand or War and Peace. My longest book was 438 pages and my shortest was a picture book at 32 pages. Although I only read two 32-page picture books (that I counted for this challenge)! My longest picture book was 80 pages long.

I completely agree, Slayermel. This was such a fun challenge! It accomplished exactly..."
Thanks for sharing those stats! Very interesting :)

Jon, are you sure you want to go into challenge rehab? I think you, Joanie, and I should make the J's take over the leaderboard this round! :)

Not too bad KoalaBear! Well, Jon is only 2 letters away and Koala only 1 letter away, so I think that was the ticket....
Next round goes to the J's!

I was wondering if you where updating your version of Karen's spreadsheet for Round 2, and If I could have a copy. It might be a lot of fun to track all those details. OCD's and all *hang head in shame* (i'm no good at a lot of comp stuff like that, it's probably a good thing, because I can't imagine all the things I would make calculated spreadsheets for)*BIG GRIN* :0)

Just a few other bits of trivia: I really did read from Dr. Seuss to Shakespeare, but my most-read author during the Shelf-a-Thon was Neil Gaiman at four books. During the challenge, I came close to doubling the number of graphic novels I had read in the past, but none of them were Neil Gaiman's.
I only lacked FOUR letters of completing the entire alphabet of authors during the Shelf-a-Thon. I didn't realize that until just now because I hadn't looked at my list of authors and sorted them! I started an Author and Title A-Z challenge in January and tried to work in as many authors and titles as I could during the past three months. Completing the entire author A-Z during the Shelf-a-Thon would have meant rereading an "N" and a "Z" author and reading a "U" and a "V" author - which I have plans for, but hadn't gotten to yet. I'm actually glad I didn't realize. That would have been one more push to read even more books.
Also, somebody asked about rereading. I reread two books during the challenge. One was an Agatha Christie that I thought I had probably read before but couldn't be sure until I actually read it. It was too many years ago! I wanted to reread it, though, even if I had read it before because it is on the Lost literature list. The other was the first of a Janette Oke series, so I wanted to reread it in preparation for reading the entire series.
And speaking of specific books, I just added a "shelf-a-thon1" shelf, if you would like to see which books I read. I only counted books for the challenge that actually fulfilled shelves.

Thank you so much Luann, I'll PM you right now :0)
Wow, Congrats everybody- a great number of books were read!
Luann / Laura / Lynlee, if you'd like to send me your addresses by private messages and I'll organise your prizes?! Sorry about being so late! Kinda lost my mind for a while, well... not expecting it back anytime soon but I'm putting in the effort :p
