What did you think of this? What age group is suitable to read this? What do you think the movie rating will be?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

frm wat i've heard, age group should be 14+

Yeah, I don't know. I read it when I was 12, and I know this boy who is 8, and he read it.

message 4: by Soumya (new)

Soumya Yea, it's not really appropriate for kids who are younger than 13, not that you can't read it. But there's a lot of Romance. Well, I read it in September 2008, and I was still 13, but I was in 8th grade, and also was going to turn 14 in January.

Moving rating will be rated R, I bet this is true.

The book was good, I guess. I don't really like much Romance, but if the book is good, I read it. I really liked the section where it was in Jacob's point of view.

message 5: by Silver (new)

Silver I don't think they'll make a movie of it, because the author is Mormon, therefore it is against her religion to watch R rated movies, and she probably will not allow them to make it.

I read it... I think it was my thirteen-and-a-half birthday when I got it from the library, because my mom got to read it since I was having a sleepover party :) my bff read it when she was 13, but her mom didn't let her read that one part...

message 6: by Soumya (new)

Soumya I don't know what 'that one part is' because there are many scenes many parents might want their kids to read.

Um....my parents don't know what the books I read are about.

message 7: by Silver (new)

Silver I meant the part when they're sleeping together...

My mom reads most of the books I read. Not all. It depends if she has time.

message 8: by Soumya (new)

Soumya oh. yea, that wasn't so great.

Well, my parents came from India, My dad reads books, but my mom isn't able to adjust reading english books, the books we read. She reads books, if she has any, that are in the language we speak.

message 9: by Silver (new)

Silver hmm...

message 10: by Soumya (new)

Soumya yea?

message 11: by Silver (new)

Silver idk... umm... brb, going to get an address book so I can address these cards I was supposed to mail yesterday.

message 12: by Silver (new)

Silver sorry, I was talking to my dad about our washington dc trip.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

lol my cousin is 17 (I'm almost 13) and she was telling me to not read it until i'm 14. but i might read it a couple of months later. my parents don't even knw wat i'm reading bout!! maybe the ppl won't make a BD movie. who wants the movie to come out?

message 14: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mkloempken) I wouldn't mind BD being made into a movie, but I am not sure if they will include enough scenes to validate an R rating...a lot of things go into the rating system now. I can never remember which is more severe, PG or PG-13, but whatever rating is just below R is more likely for this book/movie because of the violence (Bella giving birth) and the honeymoon scenes.

I don't really think an age restriction is possible for this book though. It really depends on what types of books a person is already reading...

Swati (readerforevergmailcom) | 858 comments Mod
Yeah, if the person is mature enough, then he/she can read it. Well, I suppose it's a good thing that my parents don't read all the books that I read.

message 16: by Silver (last edited May 02, 2009 05:51AM) (new)

Silver My mom wasn't really sure if she wanted me to read Breaking Dawn, but she didn't tell me I COULDN'T read it, so I went ahead and read it.

And G is general, PG is parental guidence, could mean that it's too scary for your five year old, but a seven year old could watch it. PG13 is parental guidence for under thirteen, meaning that the people who rated it think that no one under 13 should be seeing it, but it's up to the parents. I've heard of M too, mature, from this girl who goes on and on about how she and her little brother ((who's like 9, and she's like 12)) watch R rated movies. I think they just watch the ones that are rated R for being scary or whatever, because she says from a young age she would ask her mom to rewind so she could watch the scariest parts over and over and over again.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

wait wait doesn't R stand for romance??
idk :-P

message 18: by Swati , The Awesomest Moderator! (new)

Swati (readerforevergmailcom) | 858 comments Mod
:D Lol, that too.

message 19: by Soumya (new)

Soumya I don't know what R stands for.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I think they are probably going to rate it M or MA meaning you'll need to be at least 15 to watch it. Plus directors can be pretty cleaver nowadays and they will be able to shoot the "romance" scenes it a way that you know whats going on, but won't graphic.

Yeah, i agree with you there.

message 22: by Silver (new)

Silver Aren't I nice? I looked it up for you guys. Lol.

Here's what they stand for:

G - General Audiences, all ages permitted.

PG - Parental Guidance suggested, Some material may not be suitable for children.

PG-13 - Parents strongly cautioned, Some material may be innapropiate for children under 13.

R - Restricted, Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.

NC-17 - No one 17 or under admitted.

And here's a site explaining it all, although the site is geared toward adults:

http://www.mpaa.org/FlmRat_Ratings.asp

OMG, really? What happened?

message 27: by ~♥Alyssa♥~ (new)

~♥Alyssa♥~ (lyssie123) | 97 comments I think it'll be PG-13 probably. I've noticed that R movies generally have a lot of violence, while PG-13 are more...umm, 'romantic.' Plus, on the honeymoon scenes, I bet they will just have it 'black out' so you don't see anything. And it's not much more violent than, say, Lord of the Rings, which are PG-13.

message 28: by Swati , The Awesomest Moderator! (new)

Swati (readerforevergmailcom) | 858 comments Mod
For the honeymoon part, they might just blur it. And what about the part when she's giving birth to Renesmee?

message 29: by ~♥Alyssa♥~ (new)

~♥Alyssa♥~ (lyssie123) | 97 comments Well, in LOTR, they catapult severed heads over the walls and hack people to bits. Or they could tame down the birth part a bit.

Swati (readerforevergmailcom) | 858 comments Mod
Yeah..or maybe they'll show it and make it rated A? But it depends in whether the actors will be willing to do it or not, too.

((Swati must have done that for the young ones here **Swati is probably pointing at me!!!**

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya. I don't think they will rate it R because of all the younger fans, so I just think they probably in the movie do what they usually do, which is like give a hint that it's going to happen, then quickly black out and go to a different scene. And I don't think the book was that bad because the author didn't....explain anything that happened. She just kind of hinted or right out told you that...it was going to happen then went to another scene.
