Luís Azevedo Charles Bukowski
One of my favourite writers. He didn't enjoy talking literature, but here are some of his finest advice on writing:

Sam Funderburk Awesome! Thank you. I just read my first Bukowski and his poems are of the few that move me.

Yeah, I love his poetry. But his prose... My, oh my. Everything except Pulp is a must-read.

You're welcome. I hope you enjoy the ones on other authors too. Next it'll be Asimov: http://azevedosreviews.com/category/2...

Sam Funderburk That's a cool little site I checked out Vonnegut's quotes and they were great

Both great reads. My favourite is Ham on Rye, though. I think it stands above all other Bukowski works.

Stosch portions from a wine stained notebook is a really good book, Reach for the sun : selected letters, 1978-1994, volume 3 is great too, both books are good for book recommendations, bukowski had great taste in books, every book hes recommended ive liked, and quite a few are alot better than his books. you will see where he got most of his ideas from, he just renewed them or expanded, "a good artist borrows a great artist steals"

I never heard of that one. I read maybe 7 or 8 of him, but not those ones. My favourite is Ham on Rye.
And his recommendations are great! I love John Fante, and met him through Bukowski.

Stosch yeh i really liked "wait until spring bandini" by fante

Charlotte Eriksson I love this! Thank you for sharing :) Charles Bukowski is one of my favorite writers all time. I lose how brutally honest he was but still managed to turn it into something poetic.

I liked that too, but my favourite was Brotherhood of the Grape!

Stosch have you guys read Journey to the End of the Night by louis-ferdinand celine, i found this through Buk's letters, he claimed the author was greatest writer in last 2000 years. its my favorite overall book, hilarious.

No, I bought it though. That one and another one by Celine, but I started by the other one and found it horrific. I'm trying to recover from the trauma and give the one you talked about a chance.

Stosch yeh celine went mad when he got older, he sided with the nazis and his writing fell off, i think reason he went with nazis was he was so sick of the normal french life and basically took the opposite of it . journey.. is so damn amazing , he was a true genius @ that time

Yeah, he didn't sound anti-Semitic in that book, but he just kept drooling on how people attacked him and how he was persecuted, etc. Very dull.
