Joel (deliriumtrigger) | 312 comments Hello. Thank you for joining this group. I just want to network the many r/Fantasy users that also use Goodreads. I have enjoyed seeing the reviews/recommendations of other r/fantasy folks I've added on Goodreads, and I figure it would be beneficial to not only those of us who read a lot of books and need new recommendations, but also newer fantasy readers who want to see how their fantasy peers rate books they're interested in.

Please feel free to give me any suggestions you have for improving the group, any ideas for activities, or anyone who feels they should/want to be moderators or whatever. I have no idea what I'm doing here.

Thanks!
-DeleriumTrigger

PJ | 5 comments I think something fun and easy to do would be to have group read-alongs for books from AMA authors and/or reddit fantasy writers of the day.

Joel (deliriumtrigger) | 312 comments Thanks for joining, Mike! I added your book to the wall as one of the featured/upcoming books, hopefully everyone has already preordered their copy.

A group I'm in on Goodreads read one book a month, decided by nominations followed by a poll. That works well.

Jason (foreverjuly) Thanks for creating this group! Looks like it's already getting pretty active.

Scott Marlowe (scottmarlowe) Thanks for the invite. I've been on GR for a long time now but still somewhat new to reddit. This might just be the best of both worlds.

message 12: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 2 comments Is there also an r/scifi group? I wouldn't mind having that feed as well.

Chris (escapistreads) Yay, finally a group on GR that I want to join. Always happy to have new ways to discover good books!

That's a good idea Mark, so everyone can vote on what book to read. I figured it could be something along the lines of how r/asoiafreread works, except at a slightly faster pace and not functioning as a reread.

I'm down for a monthly groups read with this group.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Suggestions:

1) Create a folder solely for recommendation threads. Be easier to just keep them all in one place.

2) Maybe start up the usual threads? "What are you reading?" Etc.

3) Toss up some rules about self-promotion. Over on r/fantasy its pretty laid back, but there are some spammy authors here on goodreads that will join the groups just to spam their self-pub drivel.

message 21: by Joel (new)

Joel (deliriumtrigger) | 312 comments All great suggestions - I think a monthly read is going to work out really well. Perhaps a vote with an assortment of books will go up, followed by the nomination being highlighted and then the discussion thread. Standard stuff but always a lot of fun.

message 22: by Jim (new)

Jim Hi all! I love reading fantasy (it's almost the only genre of fiction I ever read), but I don't spend so much time with it that I can read everything out there. So I'm always looking for the sort of great pillars / hidden gems of the genre, you know?

To that end, is there a way that this group could take some sort of a vote to determine its picks for the greatest fantasy novels, past or present? I think it would be neat to have a pinned list that just represents the 20 greatest series, as chosen by the group. Maybe update it once a year. That would be a great resource for people like me.

Andrew Obrigewitsch (andrewobrige) Hello all, I'm a regular on r/fantasy, you might know me as vehiclestars. I'm the one that reads like 30 books a month, LOL.
