Challenge: 50 Books discussion

Hello!

I know it's not yet Friday for most of us but I've got wi-fi access so I'm posting this week's discussion forum question a little early.

Can you believe 2013 is almost halfway over? Or I guess if you look at it with a glass is half-full mentality, can you believe that we have just a little over 1/2 of 2013 left? Neither can I!

It's time to report on how your progress toward meeting your Challenge goal for 2013. Are you halfway there? More than halfway? Done? Tell us all about your progress.

Also, what has been your least favorite book so far in 2013? I know there are lots of us who don't give up on a book, but I also know there are some of us who do give up on books. Is there a book you started in 2013 and gave up on? Why? Do you think you'll pick it back up?

Right on target (which is amazing cuz I have never read this many books before - stretch goal of 75) and just finished by 36th book. It has been interesting 6 months with many books that were kewl and interesting and some fell flat.

Sorry nope, don't give up on books - but there are a couple books that fell flat for me Fasting, Feasting and Snow Crash.

How are you doing with your goal?

I am way ahead of schedule this year already about 2/3 thru. I had a goal of 60 books with at least 40 adult (vs young adult) books. I am at 42 books with 21 each being adult and young adult (so I guess halfway on one goal).

This hasn't been a great year for good books. My only 5 star books were ones I've read before. I've had 1 four star book. There were 14 books I rated 3 stars and 22 with 2 stars (if the math doesn't add up, there are 3 novellas in there as well).

I've read 7 books I've rated as 1 star including 3 from the Left Behind series. I never abandoned a book but did force myself through that series just to finish it because the writing is so horrible. The other books had better writing, they were just uninteresting books. Enough so that I didn't want to continue the series for each of them.

I am a little above target at 28 books. Which is great since I am super busy! I haven't given up on any but have sped through the ends of a few- the last few Laurell K Hamilton's I read (won't be finishing Anita Blake series...) and 50 Shades. I'm sticking to my 50 goal!

Im right on target saying my final goal is 30 books. Im right at 15 now. I have a feeling i will be falling behind though because I am reading 2 huge books right now. Les Miserables is gonna take me a year im thinking. When I think im making good progress on it I look down at my page numbers then i get all discouraged.

I'm ahead at present, but you never know. I'm in a bit of a dry spot have only read a couple of books this month.

I have read 45 book with a goal of 75, so I only have 30 left to read to reach this goal. I actually don't stop reading books very often, per se. I read 5 or 6 at a time, and find that I stop reading books, because I've started reading a new book, with every intent on finishing every book I start. Right now I am forcing myself to finish a book. I am almost 2/3 through it, and I am ready for it to be finished.

I think Les Mis should count as two books!

I've read 31 books toward this year's 50 Book Challenge, so I'm at 62% toward completion.

I actually haven't given up on a book this year, though I do give up on books that just lose my interest or never capture my interest in the first place. The one book that I would have given up on was Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut, but it was my second time trying to read it and I just resolved to finish it and put it in my books-to-donate pile. It's also the book that I finished this year but didn't enjoy at all.

The worst book this year, though, by far wasUnder the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry. I only finished reading this book because I made the disastrous choice to teach it in a literature course. It was another book that promptly found its way into the donate pile after I finished with it.

I can't believe the year is half over! I've been doing really well this year, grand total is 107 and I keep having to push my target up. So, here is the break down:
Books: 36
Graphic Novels/ comic books: 43
Audiobooks: 27
My least favorite, and the only one star I've ever given, was Sexing the Cherry.
My two favorites and the books I'll be recommending to my friends are Warm Bodies (for absolutely everyone, seriously read this book) and Ready Player One(for all my nerds and gamers!).
As for abandoning a book once I start it, I will finish a book even if I'm not enjoying it. The only book I started and never finished was Lord of the Flies although I'm very tempted to leave A Clash of Kings. I might finish it yet but if I do I won't be reading any of the rest of the series.

lisa- i agree eith you on that one!! ive about got 100 pgs down though! yay!

I just signed up on June 9th, so I've got some catching up to do lol. But, I've got 4 books done so far and starting the 5th one tomorrow. We're also going to be taking a big road trip in a couple weeks, so I'll have LOTS of reading time then-hoping to get 4-5 books done during that, including a couple bigger ones :)

Favorite so far-Come Alive, by Karina Halle (if you loved The X-Files, the Experiment in Terror series is a must read!)

Least favorite-Beautiful Stranger, by Christina Lauren (big disappointment, after such an amazing first in series book, Beautiful Bastard)

I'm doing great! I have read 27 books out of 52 so I'm right on track! I try hard not to give up on a book but sometimes I can't help it. One of the most lackluster books I've read this year is definitely this one:



I was not impressed by this at all. I'm looking forward to all the books to come! I hope everyone else is doing well with their challenges.

I'm off to a rough start this year, it seems. Last year I stayed pretty much on target with my reading, but as of right now I'm 8 books behind. Yikes! I'm almost done with one (Jurassic Park) and about half done another (Robopocalypse), but still. If I'm going to reach 75 books by the end of the year I am going to need to pick up the pace.

As for your other questions, I am one of those people who has to finish every book, no matter how horrible. Fortunately for me, I haven't had any really bad ones so far this year. A few 3-stars, but nothing lower than that. Probably my least favorite has been The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. There were others that I rated only 3 stars, but they were books that I didn't expect to be awesome. But I had heard really good things about Oscar Wao and was disappointed.

My favorite so far has definitely been Under the Dome. Stephen King back to doing what he does best. Overall it's been a pretty good start to the year, as far as books go. I just need to read more of them. :)

It awesome to see so many people are making more personalized goals this year, it's fun to go through the lists and see what everyone is up to. Always find some great new books to add to my list!

I'm at 33 books read right now (+6 short stories I didn't count towards the goal and 4 abandoned books).

I've had way too many favorite books so far this year, I feel like I've read a strangely high number of them which has been a refreshing change. :D

Skinny was, by far, my least favorite. Nothing even came close to as much as I did not like that one. Haha.
