April (booksandwine) | 312 comments They are fantastic. The epic journey of the hobbits and their friends is definately worth a read. While Tolkien does seem to go on forever about the trees and what not, I think it really does add to the story so you can really immerse yourself within Middle Earth.

Renee (elenarenee) | 82 comments I read these over and over when I was in High School. They were magic to me

Luann (azbookgal) | 274 comments I first read this series in high school as well. I've reread it several times over the years and always love revisiting that world. I also loved the movies - even though some favorite parts were changed. I wish every movie based on a book was that well done! I also love that the movies have encouraged many people to read the books who wouldn't have otherwise.

Kandice I love this series. I've read all his work and this series (including the Hobbit) is the most accessible. His others are even more descriptive and assume you have a good hold on Middle Earth.

I didn't read these until I was an adult and can't imagine I would have loved them as a child, so I do NOT push them on my children...YET! LOL

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I have only read "The Fellowship of the Ring," and that was way back in public school. I really need to revisit it, as I do not think I could fully appreciate the novel back then. I remember thinking it boring, and that certainly cannot be right!
