John Green and Jennifer Echols seem to have a lot of stand alone novels. I really like Jennifer Echos. I have been having a problem where I lose interest in a series by the time the next book comes out so I've really gotten into stand alone novels lately.

Sophia | 26 comments Hmm, I find that most of the books I read are series. Also, the stand alones are very different in genre compared to the series books I read. I love the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time and Wonder.

Vitor Henrique Machado (face2face) | 63 comments I prefer trilogies rather than series or standalones.
They are long enough so they can cover a lot of ground in a story, but not so long that you get overwhelmed with information. Waiting for the 3rd book in Kingkiller Chronicles. Ive tried to read The Book Thief last month but I'm too lazy, gonna pick it up now during vacations.

Irena BookDustMagic | 54 comments here's some of my favorite stand-alone:
The DUFF Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Hard Love by Ellen Wittlinger Hate List by Jennifer Brown The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Irena BookDustMagic | 54 comments i just finished this one today and it's my new favorite: If He Had Been With Me by Laura Nowlin

message 8: by Zainab (new)

Zainab the standalone i just read The Carrier (Spilling CID, #8) by Sophie Hannah it started off ok and i was addicted. it was really confusing and great as a crime thriller but when i worked out who the killer was i suppose it was kind of boring. i'd definetely recommend it though and can't wait to read Kind of Cruel by Sophie Hannah

Nitzan Schwarz (nitzanafterwords) If you're looking for a sort of fantasy/gothic/dark/creepy standalone, I'm currently in the middle of Hollow Pike by James Dawson and it's pretty good. It's Young Adult, deals with a murder mystery with a paranormal edge to it.

I also love Curious Incident. I liked A Spot of Bother as well. If you like Mark Haddon, I would recommend Brock Clarke as well. I'm kind of a total fan girl of Clarke though, so keep that in mind.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Also, I love stand alone novels. Series are nice and trilogies are cool, but stand alones are my favorites to read, depending on the author and story.

message 19: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Love Rainbow Rowell's books.
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

This is one of my favorite books.
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

message 20: by Jessica-Robyn (new)

Jessica-Robyn I'm such a commitment-phobe when it comes to series that standalones are my go to. I've got to say though I am loving the trend of companion series. So far I've seen them pop up a lot in the YA romance genre (such as Anna and the French Kiss) but I would love to see more of them! I love the idea of books where you get to explore the scope of a world without having to deal with reading the books in a certain order, being left on a dumb cliffhanger, or second book slumps.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I like to read a couple books in a series, take a break with a standalone or three, and then return to the series to finish it off. Some of my favourite standalones are "A Thousand Splendid Suns," "Life of Pi," and "The Book of Negroes."
