I liked the ending. Very The Graduate like in its lack of resolution.

I agree--I felt that there was a lot going on with Walking, Cars, & Trains--just the nature of transportation in general and Amis was somehow resolving this theme by mocking the literary tradition of Train Stations as romantic rendez vous spots in Literature...
