Steph | 38 comments I am about 100 pages into Pines and I am really enjoying it so far!

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I haven't read any yet, but there are several here I'm looking forward to.

alisonwonderland (Alison) | 70 comments I haven't read any of these yet, but I had several on my to-read list before the list came out. I guess I'll start with those (including Bernadette and Tell the Wolves I'm Home).

Bernadette was a really quick and funny read for me. It was written by one of the writers for the TV show Arrested Development, so that should give you an idea of it. Wolves was a bit heavier, but good in a different way.

Stephanie | 40 comments I loved Wolves. I've recommended it several times before I knew it was on the RC list. Easily the best I've read so far this year.

Marinda (marindak) | 30 comments Just finished Vengeance Born. Don't think it should win Readers Choice.

Becky | 45 comments I read Me before You. Enjoyable characters but predictable ending. 3 stars

message 9: by Nora (new)

Nora (norawb) | 17 comments I liked Me Before You, but found the ending disturbing. I wanted them to end up together & live happily ever after. ;)

message 10: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments me too

Becky | 45 comments listening to Dog Stars. It has MAJOR profanity (cannot listen with kids in the car - LOL )

message 12: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments Finished Daughter of the Sword: Very clever story line. Perfect mix of historical fiction and modern-day police work.

Listening to Beautiful Ruins, which was nominated for an Audie Award. The narration really adds a lot- I love all the Italian bits.

I really liked listening to that one

message 15: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments Finished End of your Life Book Club. I enjoyed the relationships explored and it made me think more about what I'm doing with my life. I didn't really add any "to read" books though from the books explored.

message 16: by Nielson (new)

Nielson | 4 comments I just finished Tell the Wolves I'm Home. I wasn't a huge fan...I feel like the whole time I just had this pit in my stomach waiting for something to happen. Nothing bad about it, I just don't think I'd recommend it. Ready to start Me Before You.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments So far I've read Last Wool and Testament (3 stars, okay but not impressive) and The Dog Stars (also 3 stars... more out of ambivalence than anything else).

This was really lovely. Makes me want to check out some old Taylor/Burton movies. And travel to Cinque Terre, but what doesn't?!

message 19: by Carole (new)

Carole | 2 comments Just finished Where'd you go, Bernadette. Fast read and different from what I normally go for. Liked how Semple brought the story together in the end.

message 20: by Christie (new)

Christie | 3 comments Sorry to be daft--are these all adult-level books, or are any of them YA?

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments They're all adult, though some would certainly be fine for teens.

Becky | 45 comments I read City of Saints 3 stars: I would have given this book 4 stars but the crude and profane language is so distracting. I loved the story and especially the setting (since I live in Salt Lake City). It was suspenseful and a great story.

I listened to the audio book and the reader pronounced the following wrong:

Timponogos (he said tempo No gos - it is pronounced TimpANogUs)
handkerchief (he said hanDkerchief - I'm pretty sure the D is silent)
Manti (he said Monti - it is MAnti)

Yes, handkerchief should have the "d" pronounced but it is usually slurred here. Just as, in Utah, the thing that has tracks is usually called "ray-road" rather than "railroad", with the "l" not silent.
As for Timp, I usually hear it pronounced as "tim-PUH-no-gus". Which, to me, seems more like he says it than like you do, though I'm not sure.

My GPS prounounces Pocatello as Poh-CAT-uh-low. Which can absolutely drive one to distraction.

I'm from American Fork, and we locals say TimpaNOgus. Of course, we also say 'Mercan Fark.

message 25: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 13 comments Sometimes I really, really like one of the books on Reader's choice list. I have read three but not yet loved any of them. Thief Taker I liked quite a bit (4 stars), The End of Your Life Book Club (3 stars), Miss Dreamsville and the Collier County Women's Book Club(3 stars) and Where 'd you go Bernedette (4 stars).
I have read Young Adult book recently and loved it. It is called Seraphina and it is very smart and somewhat thought provoking Fantacy book.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Oh, I loved Miss Dreamsville. That's the only one I've given 5 stars so far.
