Craig Evans | 9 comments Just agreed upon The Road today. Will commence in a few days.

Craig Evans | 9 comments Had read the first 20 or so pages Thursday. Started at the beginning this morning, sitting outside and drinking coffee... am now on page 107.

Michael (lovechild) | 149 comments I may not sleep well tonight because of this book. It profoundly sad and so well written that I can see it outside my window. I find this proof that living in the desert will warp a man and bring out the best in him. (P.S. I live in the same desert Mr McMarthy does =P )
I am at page 149.

*** Some spoilers***

Straight in, the first thing that boggled my mind was the lines. "It's because I wont ever get to drink another one, isnt it? Ever's a long time. Okay, the boy said." Just to think of that. For the world to be so gone to have one drink of something that is so sweet and no when you take that last sip it may be gone forever.

The Child at this point seem as anchor a sad terrified Jiminy Cricket, someone who has grown up in a ugly world and has to have seen such horror that would land some in a hospital. But sheltered and loved he still hold that spark of being clean.

Jumping around that next horror was the suicide rant. It's power was grand and made me sit and read over and over and almost drove me to tears.
"What in God's name are you talking about? We're not survivors. We're the walking dead in a horror film. I'm begging you. I don't care. I don't care if you cry. It doesn't mean anything to me. Please."

Like I said I may not sleep well tonight because of this book. That is okay.

Craig Evans | 9 comments Somehow I fell asleep last night with only 10 pages to go. All I can say is Wow. Seemingly simple descriptions of the events and locales that the two main characters lived within, and simplistic dialogue, but the emotional and intellectual impact of the story was impressive.

Craig Evans | 9 comments I read this book a second time, and returned it to the library on Wednesday. I must say that the "emotional" impact was almost as great the second read as the first... I actually thought I picked up a couple of underlying ideas that the author was describing the second time around that I'd missed the first.
