Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments Theme: A serial book
Pick a book that is part of series. If you see books 4-8 of a series on the list, please pick the earlier book than the later

Lauren
Bea

Y'all can pick from my Pots shelf.

message 4: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments Karen hasn't popped in yet, so I'll post my picks for Bea first.

Here are your picks Bea:

Theme: Rules Of Prey (Lucas Davenport, #1) by John Sandford by John Sandford
Beloved by Toni Morrison by Toni Morrison
Presumed Innocent (Kindle County Legal Thriller, #1) by Scott Turow by Scott Turow

You have Absolute Fear (New Orleans, #4) by Lisa Jackson by Lisa Jackson on your POTS list but it is book #4. So you could read this one if you don't mind reading out of order, or book #1, which is Hot Blooded (New Orleans, #1) by Lisa Jackson

Let me know if you want some other picks :0)

Fear Nothing hasn't been published yet - only in January 2014 - long time to wait :0(

I'm waiting to read Catching Fire unitl after I see the movie in November.

Can I be a pest and ask for different picks? Thanks.

Great picks, Karen and Lauren. I have a nice list of books to select from.

What are y'all reading first? (I think we can start now that everyone has their picks.)

My first book will be either Presumed Innocent or For the Sake of Elena

message 16: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments Thanks for the picks Karen.

Here are my picks for you:

Theme: Tripwire (Jack Reacher, #3) by Lee Child

The Oracle Code (Thomas Lourdes #4) by Charles Brokaw

The Likeness (Dublin Murder Squad, #2) by Tana French

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments I have a few challenge books to read first. Will probably read Kisscut (Grant County, #2) by Karin Slaughter first.

message 18: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) I don't know which two to pick, all eight are good choices. I think I'll put them all on my kindle and decide once I've finished A Song of Ice and Fire.

D.G. | 1370 comments Sorry to butt in ladies but I wanted to ask Lauren a question. Did you know that the audio of Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews audio is coming out in OCTOBER?

I'm so freaking mad.

I know! I'm devastated. I wrote to Ilona yesterday because I wanted to know the release date and she confirmed it. It was so great that she got back to me almost immediately but I'm really bummed :0(

message 21: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I have a rant planned in the blog against Recorded Books (not against Ilona or Gordon because I know it's not their fault.)

message 22: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments No, it isn't. It's the publisher's decision. I have to wonder how much of the decision is affected by sales and wanting people to get both the actual book and the audio :0/

message 23: by D.G. (last edited Jul 12, 2013 12:46PM) (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments But Recorded Books doesn't get a share of the print/ebook sales so what does it matter to them if people buy both versions?

These days, almost everybody else releases the audio and the print/ebook together because they want to take advantage of the hype behind the release date. I can't believe that Recorded Books has found a magical formula that gets them more sales once the print version has been out for 3 months.

I've been racking my mind (as a marketer) to try to understand this decision and I can't find anything that makes sense. RB is:
a) alienating customers
b) running the risk that some people just go with the print version and don't buy the audio

message 24: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments You're right - the audio publisher doesn't benefit from a later release.

One of my friends on another forum has already said she would get the print book because she can't wait for the audio release even though she's listened to all the others.

Due to my first person pet peeve, I can only listen to them, so I will have to wait until October.

Have started my first book For the Sake of Elena and will start the second one this coming week. Should be done by the end of the month.

message 29: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenofthebookworm) Finished my second book, Tripwire. An enjoyable read, although the downside to reading book three in a series that currently runs to 17 books is that you know that no matter what happens the lead character has to survive.

Finished For the Sake of Elena. Had planned to read Presumed Innocent but found that it was missing approximately 30 pages. Misprint of other pages twice! So need to pick another book.

Will read Rules Of Prey for my second book.

Shoot! Sometimes I am so very scattered!

I was going to report that I had started my second book, when I noticed that it was supposed to be Rules Of Prey. Thankfully I found a copy in my personal library and so can start it tomorrow.

The book I thought was the right one that I have started? Phantom Prey!

message 33: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments It's taken me ages to get to my books for this round of POTS. My only excuse is getting carried away with other reads for Team Challenges.

Anyway, I've started my first book which is Immortal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #2 ) by Larissa Ione

Have no idea if I will get to the second book :0(

message 34: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1223 comments Finished Immortal Rider - Lots of secret keeping and angst, which I dislike. Hopefully the next book will be less angsty.

finished my second book Rules Of Prey. another 4* book by John Sandford. However, reading two of this series simultaneously reulted in a need for a lighter read now.
