Julia (juliace) Theme: A serial book
Pick a book that is part of series. If you see books 4-8 of a series on the list, please pick the earlier book than the later

Julia (juliace) Please use my "To Read" shelf > see link http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

message 3: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments Wow Julia, that's a really big list to choose from. My to read list is a bit shorter.

Choose from my list.

message 4: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments Julia, my choices for you -
Theme Fifth Grave Past the Light
and
To Kill a Mockingbird because I think everyone should read it.
The Beach Street Knitting Society and Yarn Club because I love knitting.

Julia (juliace) Thanks Coralie! 5th Grave is already pre-ordered on my Nook.

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments please pick from my to-read-2013 shelf

message 7: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments okie dokie - I should be working on my blog, but getting distracted briefly ;)

For Julia:
Letters From Home - I love Kristina's books and she is super sweet as a member of one of my GR groups - i'm waiting impatiently for her new book later on this year
Carved in Bone - this series became my new addiction earlier on this year - i'm up to date with the exception of the most recent one
Grave Mercy - assassin nuns - need I say more - I loved the time period and the mix of fantasy (lite) with historical fiction

I'm going to recommend you two books that are first in series, but every one on your list that I found that were later in a series, you had earlier ones marked as did not finish/like - so I didn't want to recommend you another in a series you may not enjoy :) hope one of these works

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments for Coralie:

for all our books, we have very few in common...lol

Railsea - a dystopian take on Moby Dick - it was weird and unique and I quite enjoyed it
The Sword of the Lady (series book) - you've read up to this book, so why not continue (and pst, I think you can use it for SRC as a 20 point task ;) )
Ready Player One - i'm actually getting ready to read this right now, it comes fairly highly recommended by various friends

Julia (juliace) The 3 books I pick for Coralie are:
Theme - Sworn to Silence, I read it and really enjoyed it. Hope you like it too.
Theme - The Cove, this book has been recommended to my by several people, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet
Xtra - Winter Rose

The books I pick for Dee are:
Theme - The Fireman Who Loved Me, I picked this b/c, come on - who doesn't love firemen?
Theme - Sea Swept, because I love anything by Nora Roberts
Xtra - Hush

Julia (juliace) Thanks Dee, I guess I should update my TR shelf.

message 11: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments Thanks Dee, I had all three of those books penciled in as possibilities for the SRC and I've completed all three tasks with other books, however I always keep easy choice tasks up my sleeve for occasions like this.

For you,

Theme book The Third Circle because they are about the only paranormal romances I like.

and God's War because I enjoyed it and I think you would too.
The Secret Life of Bletchley Park: The History of the Wartime Codebreaking Centre by the Men and Women Who Were There because it sounds interesting.

message 12: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments Thanks Julia, now to see what's available at the library. Unfortunately I've just made my regular weekly visit. It's just as well I'm often in the neighbourhood and can make a second weekly visit.

message 13: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Thanks guys ;) now to figure out

message 14: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I started reading Fifth Grave Past the Light, I've read the other books in this series and I love Charley Davidson, the protagonist. She's a hoot!

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments I have fifth grave reserved at the library - i'm hoping I get it soon

message 16: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments i'm assuming we can start now right? since the pickers for the next category aren't going to be based on who finishes first...

either way, i'm going to go with Julia's pick of The Fireman Who Loved Me - it has been staring at me for a while and I can fit it into one of my tasks for SRC (either the Dirty Dancing one or the Tony one - both authors with the name Jennifer ;) )

then not sure - possibly God's War - I requested it from the library

message 17: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments I've just collected Sworn to Silence and Railsea from the library so I'm set to go.

message 18: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Hope you enjoy "Sworn to Silence". I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

message 19: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Finished my first read Fifth Grave Past the Light. Waiting for Carved in Bone and Grave Mercy to come from the library. Which ever one gets here first will be my next read.

message 20: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) While I'm waiting for my other series books to come in, I'm going to start To Kill a Mockingbird.

message 21: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I've started "To Kill A Mockingbird" and so far it's just ok. I'm going to keep trying...

message 22: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments I have finished Sworn to Silence and I struggled to get through it. The present tense narration really annoyed me.

I have started Railsea which looks to be more my cup of tea.

message 23: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Was it first person present or third person present? I can deal with the first , I hate the second

message 24: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I'm sorry you didn't like it Coralie. I feel terrible now :(

message 25: by Coralie (new)

Coralie | 1658 comments Don't worry Julia, if I didn't want to read it, it shouldn't have been on my to read shelf. I think we just have different tastes in books.

It was first person present tense and it wasn't all of the narration so I kept going from comfort to discomfort. I'm not a big fan of first person narration, regardless of the tense.

message 26: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments Gotcha - not a fan of first person but I can deal with it - I seem to be seeing a lot of 3rd person present tense recently which I find really hard-awkward

message 27: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments lol - I am totally sucking this time...I HATE reading slumps/trying my darndest to finish the SRC books by the cut-off...now that that's done - time to hit these

message 28: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments whoops, I thought I had stopped in - I finished up both of my books

God's War (recommended by Coralie) - it was different to say to the least, a holy war going on for thousands of years; alien-type beings, bounty hunters...it kept me intrigued once I started it

The Fireman Who Loved Me (recommended by Julia) - cute, contemp romance, wasn't too angsty which was good, but I really dislike the big misunderstanding trope
