Close To Sore by Michael Capuzzo. Close to Shore: The Terrifying Shark Attacks of 1916

Yikes! I knew there was a reason why I hadn't gone in the water yet this year! This book sounds really good - a real life thriller. Thanks for the title!

I just found this at a yard sale. Does it count as a classic?

Oops. The Flying Nun by Tere Rios. The book the TV series was based on.

Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown. Rollicking fun tale of murderous pirates, fine dining, and the quest for the Brass Fox. (And yes, there are sharks!)

That sounds like a perfect summer read. Close to Shore is very good. It's so good that I think it will be a long time before I go back in the ocean, or a creek, or a bay. :)

I never knew that came from a book! I guess I'm dating myself but I loved that show. It sounds so silly if you try to explain to anyone that Sally Fields could fly with her nun's headgear! (was it a "wimple"?)

Now I'm on Ocean at the End of the Lane (Neil Gaiman) and I'm hooked! Don't tell me what happens!

I'm reading the Ocean at the End of the Lane also. It was a little slow at first (only a couple of pages), but I am into it now. It is strange because it reads like a kid's story, and I keep forgetting it is the adult telling it. Cannot wait to see how it ends!

Oh, and I am also listening to Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. It is really good too!

I'm reading The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (the 2nd in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series) and The Feminine Mystique.

I'm reading Only Yesterday:An Informal History of the Twenties by Allen 1931. So I'm not reading anything new. :)

I think the stiff part of the the nun's headgear is a cornet. The part around the neck and chest is the wimple. But I don't know much about nun habits.

How do you choose what to read next? I have a list, but something usually happens that makes me read something else instead. This leads to that, and that's how I pick the next book.

That's usually how I end up reading my next choice too. Sometimes reading a series is good too so you can go right from one book to the next.

An occupational hazard of working in a library is having way too many books to read! We watch a lot of reviews, bestseller lists, etc. We also get a lot of suggestions from library patrons and members of our book groups. A few of us do a program in January and June called Breakfast With Books, and we put together lists of the best books of the year, as well as staff favorites.
