This is for Book the First.

I'm reading this off of Book Glutton. I have no idea if I'll like reading classics this way but it's definitely easier to make notes about certain passages.

Sadie When I was in high school, I had to have my mom read the first part of this book to me until I had a good grasp of the story. I had a hard time getting through all the descriptions and still maintaining the story. Things went much better this time around, but I can still see why I was overwhelmed at first! Dickens is amazing with his descriptions. I also loved the forshadowing as Carton stares at himself in the mirror and wonders what it would be like if he was Darnay.

Peaktopeak I've never read an entire classic online but I have used them to read a chapter here and there and I like that. Classics are ideal for that since often the chapters aren't long anyway.

I agree it started slow. The story was completely new to me, but once things got going I thought it was good. I remember feeling that that moment with Carton in the mirror was important without knowing why. The wine spill in the road really got to me too. There was such a feeling of impending doom throughout the book!
