How did this all really happen?

This series was INCREDIBLE. I loved it so much, but I am so confused as to what really happened. I had rented the book from the library and it was due like the next day, so I had to speed read and I think I misunderstood some things.

So what actually caused the FAYZ? Can anyone explain at all?

From what I understood, the meteorite that hit the power plant 13-15 (i can't remember however many years it was) ago was carrying an alien that was actually the Gaiaphage. The nuclear waste spilled probably got into the water supply and affected every one who was maybe a year young or born after that. The bits of radiation were so slight it didn't affect people maybe 2 or older. The radiation also gave the kids powers. So when Little Pete used his power to create the dome and teleport everyone out of the town, trying to save them from the nuclear explosion being caused by the gaiaphage, it only affected everyone 15 or older because they were too old to be affected by the radiation. The kids who were affected by the radiation were trapped in the dome. That's just my theory.

Jordan is close but it says in the book that in the panic of the meltdown that was happening at the plant, little pete just created the anomaly and bleeped all adults out of the space to get some peace and quiet.

It doesn't really explain why it was people aged 15 and up who were affected, why 14 and younger it didn't matter.

It never explains why they escaped when they turned 15 or who the prophet was, and it began this little "egg" theory about the dome for the gaiaphage and just kinda forgot about it.

It also didn't fully explain why Sam had his powers before the dome, and why the others developed their powers so quickly after the dome.
