Brad | 5 comments I haven't finished reading the whole chapter yet, but this is a very interesting chapter. I love the concept that has been borrowed from Anthony Robbins of asking questions. Our brain truly is an amazing computer that is very good at answering the questions that we ask it, if only we ask the "right" questions.

Burgess says "The types of questions we ask ourselves determine the types of answers that we receive". This is so true.

The other interesting point, for me, is the concept of whether people are "creative". Burgess argues that everyone is creative and not just a select view. This is interesting, because at the moment I am also working through an online course with Stanford University on "How to Learn Math". Professor Jo Bolander is effectively making the same argument about mathematics. She is dispelling the belief that some people are good at mathematics, whilst other are not. So it is interesting to see the same argument against what is referred to as a "fixed mindset", in favour of taking an active approach to growing in the particular skill. I wonder how many other areas of education we allow the "fixed mindset" message to subconsciously set lower expectations for our students.

I will keep reading...

Andrea | 9 comments Burgess states, "For most of us, creative genius is developed through hard work, directed attention, and relentless engagement in the creative process." I'm so hoping this is true. I've just enrolled in Harvard's Design Thinking project. But I'm also doing the same course as you Brad. How to learn maths. I accept the idea about maths and mindset and learning because I've witnessed it -through my teaching. But I have less confidence in creativity. I think it's because I associate creativity with art -but think I'm pretty creative in my teaching.

"The critical process starts when you ask the right types of questions and then actively seek the answers."- it always comes back to good questions.

"We must collectively agree educating the next generation is worth the time & effort & that our students deserve to be uplifted & inspired." This needs to be agreed upon as a team if the team is to succeed!

"Be proactive in your pursuit of your vision for your classroom & life. I am very proactive!"- we all are otherwise we wouldn't be reading and contributing.

Thanks for reading along!
