Had humans been given the powers of an immortal life, would that have been for better or for worse? Would it have done good or bad to humanity?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I think it'd have been bad.

Yeah well.....the world would've been somehow destroyed.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly!! I mean, we would all easily accomplish everything we want to in life and eventually we would get all bored and maybe even start killing each other simply out of boredom.

Humans always find a way of screwing things up, so I'd say it would be worse.

Ban the bombs and feed the starving children. Give us jobs. Give us peace of mind. Better our medical system and educational system.

So much could be done with the millions that go into crafting bombs and weapons of all sorts.

The scales are not balanced.

Totally agree with you Aaron and Brenda....:))

Thanks, Ruchi!:)

Sanju (sanjeev4puli) i don't agree with aaron(only in this particular issue)
welfare with out security is a inexcusable mistake

my line is "first build the strong foundation(security) then think of ur home"

becoz if u go through history u can find wt happend to countries which concentrated on welfare with out enough security

and u r thinking about poor people who constitutes 20-40% of population....iam thinking about lives of 100% citizens

message 9: by Bloodyhell (new)

Bloodyhell This is actually a central issue in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Everyone on earth becomes an immortal. But they still age and they still suffer from diseases, injuries and pain.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

@Sanjeev

I agree with your line, "first build the strong foundation(security)then thing of your home". Without a strong foundation, the home may collapse, as is also true with faith. I take it that is the analogy you were making?

The welfare system is being abused everywhere, on many levels.

Don't tell me what I was thinking, Sanjeev. 100% citizens? I'm not sure that applies when so many are affluent and well off.
@Fong What is Torchwood: Miracle Day? It sounds like so my mythical fiction to me. No one on Earth will ever become immortal and still suffer the ills of man.

This discussion is perplexing to say the least.

Torchwood: Miracle Day is a British series. So you're right it is fictional. It is immortality without eternal youth.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I see. I've never seen it, though I do watch the BBC. Yes, that is certainly fictional.

A lot of the Bible is parabels and fiction, written by man, not God. Yet some people take it so literally.

I respect all religions and love learning about them. I just can't stand sects/cults and how they preach at a person.

message 13: by Bloodyhell (new)

Bloodyhell I love learning about religions too and I like to hear the viewpoints of religious people. Too bad I lost my cellphone and haven't been able to contact them ever since.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly. Contact who ever since? I've learned about other religions right here on GR. Jewish, Wicca, Buddhism and many more.

I love the feeling of education and insight each one gives me.

message 15: by Bloodyhell (new)

Bloodyhell People from Jehovah Witness. We usually had bible study once a week.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Jehovah Witnesses are cult-like, in my opinion. They come to my door preaching. I tell them no thanks and they keep preaching. One told me I was going to hell! And pushing those tracts on people. It's not right. I really disagree with everything the J.W.'s stand for.

Their young people seem almost robotic and brainwashed.

message 17: by Bloodyhell (new)

Bloodyhell The ones I know don't even believe in Hell and they are quite decent folks. They never force me to believe anything.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm just telling you my experiences with them.

message 19: by Bloodyhell (new)

Bloodyhell So am I. Not trying to deny your experiences or anything.

message 20: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean If ALL humans were given immortality them I think I'd be bad... for the earth and for people interactions in general. You think the earth is overpopulated now...well imagine immortal people having kids for eternity and those kids having kids for eternity and so on. yikes.

message 21: by Luffy Sempai (new)

Luffy Sempai (luffy79) These are FIVE things that will almost certainly be achieved by scientists in the future:

1. Immortality for humans.
2. Complete control in genetic manipulation
3. Terraforming of Mars
4. A software that can make any kind of video from scratch, including full fledged movies.
5. Eradication of all diseases.

Here are five things that will never happen:

1. Time travel.
2. Creation of a new artificial sun when our natural one dies.
3. The complete extinction of religion.
4. Discovering alien species, especially intelligent ones
5. The abolition of the death penalty worldwide.
