Nadja (nzie) | 16 comments What do you all make of this Faber character? His "I'm a coward" thing is interesting.. I'm not sure how much of it I believe.

I did not see Guy going off the deep end and reading from a book, being public. I thought maybe he had one book in the ventilator, but in this section it became clear we were really dropped much more into the middle of things than I'd thought at the beginning. He clearly had been on this path for a while, and maybe Clarisse was the "spark" for this. :-)

Also, anyone else notice a lot of storm images? Not sure what's up with that but it was interesting... it may just be a load of water drowning out the fire he's surrounded himself with.

Rachelle (awaken80) | 1 comments I agree with you Nadja that I didn't see Guy going off the deep end like that so quickly. As you said, we find out that this has been coming for quite a while, but we don't know that at the beginnng of the book, so it does come as a surprise. And that's what I'm loving about the book: the writing style. The fact that we get pieces one after the other to build the puzzle. Loving it :-)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 208 comments All of the monologue about the danger of books was interesting. I like that it's pointed out that it's not just that it's the government controlling books... but people WANT to be diverted and not have to think. And considering this book was written 60 years ago, it's even more disturbing: we have more hours of TV on than we could ever watch, our cars keep going faster and we are more computerized than ever, not taking the time to "sit a spell" on that front porch and just talk to each other. Eerily predictive, this book. Maybe even more so than Brave New World.
