Mihai said "I have quite a few fantasy series left unread after the first novel"
I do as well, and it is only the presence of many, many other books that I want to read that has gotten in the way of me reading on. I think the non-fantasy Louise Penny series was one of the first series ever where I read multiple books in a row to the exclusion of all else.
I don't know what to expect from this series. "Expect the Unexpected" never sounded so true. I initially thought maybe little would happen in the book because of how slowly (not a criticism) Abraham was building up the characters and plot. But once events started happening it felt like they came hard and fast. I feel like SO MUCH happened in this book and there is such potential for more.

I really hope we get to know both Kit & Marcus more, and I'm looking forward to getting a better insight into Clara's character as well.

As far as expectations go, I am guessing that, while there is a merciful lack of farm boys chosen by destiny, things are going to disintegrate quickly in a world-threatening direction. Abraham will probably continue to subvert the genre and confound our expectations though, which I think is why we're looking forward to it so much.

As far as expectations- I think it best to be open because I am not sure what Abraham has planned.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I certainly want to read the rest of the series, and other books by Mr Abraham. My only criticism of the book is that we are left with so many unanswered questions that I really NEED to read on - bad author! Perhaps I can give up sleeping so that I have enough time to read all the books on my TBR list . . .
I have quite a few fantasy series left unread after the first novel. I cannot say that I was disappointed with them, but they also didn't pick my interest enough so I can dive eagerly in the next installments of their series. It is not the case here. I cannot wait to see what happens next. I know that I cannot do it right away, as much as I wish I have a few review copies that need attending and I am a little behind with my schedule there. But I will definitely read at least "The King's Blood" (already promising aplenty from the title) by the end of the year.
I can't wait to see where Geder is going. With so much changes in his attitude I can't expect nothing but a couple of new surprises from him. I hope that Cithrin will reveal more of the economical mechanism of the world. I am not looking forward too much to Dawson's arc, but Clara promises to offer some very interesting things in both personal and political aspects connected with her husband. I expect Marcus' story to start moving and his character to be a little more developed because of it. I sense a warfare or at least an armed conflict that will put his experience to value. And I believe that Master Kit will have his own arc. The prologue and epilogue of "The Dragon's Path" lead me think of that much.
In a few words, there are plenty of things to look forward and to discover in this series.
