101 Books to Read Before You Die discussion

Glad you asked. There is a technical issue that I am trying to figure out and the upcoming reads listed are not our September reads. I have started a thread for September nominations. Please feel free to nominate the books you would like to read.
I think GR is having a glitch, because those books shouldn't be showing up at all and the normal ways we have of fixing it aren't working. No, those are not the upcoming reads, but as Jennifer said, please check out the September nominations threads!
I'm positive it's a glitch, actually, because if you click on "see more upcoming books" it takes you to the entire "to-read" list and those two showing just happen to be the first two on the list. I have a feeling GR is playing around with some things. Hopefully they'll have it fixed soon.

I like it :) Would help take some of the load off of the moderators, for sure. It's hard sometimes when we get so busy with that whole "real life" thing. I don't know that it would be expected, per se, but not a bad idea. I don't mind setting up the discussion threads, but maybe the nominator could lead discussion and set up some questions/ideas within the threads? What do you all think?
We hadn't come to a specific decision, i wasn't sure what the general consensus was. Does anyone else have some thoughts to add? Think it's a good idea, or like things how they are?
FYI, I updated our "To-Read" list and added page numbers, for months where we're looking for something shorter or longer to read. I didn't change anything on the Children's list, as many are storybooks or pages can be misleading (i.e. huge, widely spaced fonts or pages with only a few lines on them). My computer wasn't keeping up with my fingers while I was typing, so if you find any errors, please let me know (somehow it at first showed The Poisonwood Bible having only 56 pages instead of 546!)
Also, don't forget the Member's Progress threads, if you want to track your own progress through the lists. :)

As it happens, I just checked off my 40th book read from the list, Jane Eyre :)

I've been way behind in the books and am just now starting to catch back up! I just started on The Big Sleep myself and I'm enjoying it so far :)
Anyway, I'm turning this thread back over to questions, as I halfway hijacked it; we'll move our conversation back to the "chit chat" thread.

Since I've seen this come up in a few other groups in which I take part, I added a paragraph to our "Welcome" thread about group participation just to clarify our stance on this. Trust me, nothing to worry about, I just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone was curious. Basically, I don't plan to remove anyone from the group unless you have posted something at all (whether relevant to a book discussion or otherwise) in over a year or so.
Thank you all for your patience with us the last few months. Both Jenn and I have had a lot on our plates and we appreciate everyone's help and patience! :)

I'm new to this group and just came across the Summer projects thing. It sounds interesting. I was wondering if there is anything planned like that for this year as well.
The moderators have actually been discussing that. We've got a couple of ideas that we're working on and we should have a poll up for voting soon :)

Sounds good :)
We kind of turned the Harry Potter series into our summer project this year. I think we kind of got busy with things (I know my work life has been crazy!) so we'll start trying to plan a summer project as a group probably in January or so of 2018, so be thinking about your ideas!

Please select unread books from our lists. Conversely we will accept nominations of award winners (Booker, Giller, Pulitzer etc.)
Under our Lists thread, we have several other prize-winning lists (although I can't promise I've marked out all the ones we've read other than our main list), but those lists certainly aren't exhaustive; if there's another critically-acclaimed list you'd like to nominate from, feel free! Just let us know the list and the book, and post in the current monthly nominations.

There is a separate thread for suggestions for this group specifically, so don't forget to check it out and post your thoughts there as well.
