Chris | 1 comments Hello,
I'm looking for a good book on either fox or wolf behavour for e personal research project. If there is a good one on both, it would be perfect, but hey, i'm not picky.
I'm fairly new to the group, so if this is in the wrong section, feel free to remove it.

Jennifer Priester (jenniferpriester) | 207 comments I can't help with the foxes since I don't have any books focused directly on them for some reason but here are some wolf book suggestions:

For just the facts:
Wolves by Seymour Simon
Wolves by John Bonnett Wexo
The Last Wild Wolves Ghosts of the Rain Forest by Ian McAllister
The Hidden Life of Wolves by Jim Dutcher
Wolves by Daniel Wood
Wolf The Ecology and Behavior of an Endangered Species by David Mech

For the facts presented in documentary's and nonfiction books about people living with and observing the wolf's behavior:
Wolves at Our Door The Extraordinary Story of the Couple Who Lived with Wolves by Jim Dutcher
The Company of Wolves by Peter Steinhart
In Praise of Wolves by R.D. Lawrence
Three Among the Wolves A Couple and Their Dog Live a Year with Wolves in the Wild by Helen Thayer

A Fiction book, but based on the journey of real wolves and includes all the facts in a highly entertaining way:
Wolf The Journey Home by Asta Bowen

I'm so glad someone here could suggest some good wolf books. Thanks.

"The Philosopher and the Wolf: Lessons from the Wild on Love, Death, and Happiness" by Mark Rowlands (Apr 7, 2009). Superb account of his nine years with a wolf he acquired as a cub, when he was a young Philosophy Professor in the USA.Great anecdotes and some serious reflections on human-wolf-dog connections. Some of his professional philosophical works also focus on animal rights and human responsibilities to animals.

Also, IN DEFENCE OF DOGS by John Bradshaw, (2012) has some serious discussion of the nature of wolves by an animal behviour specialist. This is another important and well researched book.

Strangely I was hand feeding a wild fox in the grounds of hotel in North Devon in the Summer, and was struck by it tameness and dog like behaviour. It acted a lot like the stray and feral dogs of Thailand.

Good luck with the research.
