Introduce yourself here:

Hi I'm Lee- I live in a triangular house in South West England with my husband and cat. When I'm not reading, I enjoy travelling by tandem and drinking real ale.
5 of my favourite books are: The Raw Shark Texts, Villette, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and Bleak House

message 3: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Hi, I'm Ellie, I live in Gloucestershire with my three cats, in a fairly bog-standard square house :)

I read as much as I can, but not as much as I would like to. Other distractions include working, knitting, volunteering for charity, looking for a permanent job and walking (though with that latter, I do sometimes read at the same time!)

I can't say I have any particular favourite books, I just enjoy reading. Though I will say I loved a recent read for a Book Club, Stoner by John Williams, sad and moving.

Nor do I restrict myself to specific genres, though I do enjoy good non-fiction history.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Ellie - our first member! - (sadly theres not a prize though :0))

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm Heather, junior doctor in Hull. As well as reading I run, cycle, go the gym and drink cocktails!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Kirsty and Heather

Hi all! I'm Laurel and I'm from Durham. I've been a confirmed book-addict all my life, and like all sorts of different genres. When I'm not reading I love to bake and make my own jams and preserves which I'm hoping to try and start selling soon!
Thanks for the invite Lee, it's cool to see a couple of familiar faces here :)

message 8: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Hi everyone *waves*

Looking forward to talking to you all :)

Thanks! This looks good - I have been doing the 1001 list on my own so would actually be cool to have some company - it's a little overwhelming.

message 11: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) Hi, I'm Paul. I live in the beautiful county of Dorset, and have not cats, and three children. I am a prolific reader, tending towards travel, science and all other types of non fiction as well as science fiction and some fantasy. I am trying to read more fiction and will give most things a go.

message 12: by Shirley (last edited Aug 06, 2013 01:39PM) (new)

Shirley Hi, I'm Shirley and I live in Lancaster. I love reading all sorts of books, mainly fiction though. I'm trying to read my way through lots of books on my shelves and more recent additions on my kindle, but unfortunately I keep adding to the pile!

message 13: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Yes, Shirley, I have the same problem - Goodreads has added several books to the pile I want to read!

message 14: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (astaceodyssey) Hi everyone! I'm Stacy and I live in California. Mostly I read contemporary fiction novels, but I'll read anything if it strikes my interest. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you :)

message 15: by Alex (new)

Alex Findley | 1 comments Hi, I'm Alex and live in Guatemala City. Even though I like reading, I don't have a lot of time. I keep buying books that either don't find the time to read or they just simply don't grab my attention from the start. I'm joining this group to get suggestions on some books to read as I know I will make the time if they are interesting. I don't have a particular subject I like to read, so pretty much open except for fantasy or science fiction. Anyway, looking forward to great readings.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello again Paul and Shirley and very nice to meet you Alex and Stacy - I'm hoping we'll all find some great new reads through this site :0).
@ Paul - I love Dorset particularly the Swanage area (Studland Bay is the best beach in the world).

message 17: by Joy (new)

Joy Stephenson (joyfrankie) | 175 comments Hi, I'm Joy and I live by the sea in East Sussex. I like mystery, thrillers and fantasy for light reading, but enjoy more serious books too. One of my favourite books is Possession.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello again Joy - glad to see you here

toria (vikz writes) (victoriavikzwrites) Hi my name is Victoria and I live in the middle of the UK. Here I blog at http://vikzwrites.wordpress.com/. Boxall has been sitting on my shelf for some time and now I'm going to make a start, looking forward to joining you.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Victoria - it will be good to have your input

Hi and welcomes everyone!

message 22: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemmagem20) | 5 comments Hi. I'm Gemma. I live in Worcestershire in the UK. I read most genres of books. I am willing to give anything a go. Read mainly fiction. I don't have as much time to read as I'd like to at the moment, as I'm currently on maternity leave with a 6 month old baby. Lots of fun, but not a lot of spare time!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Gemma - join in as much or little as you have time for - I'm going to try and make sure that our monthly reads are not too long - keeping the weightier tomes for our 3 month reads.

message 24: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemmagem20) | 5 comments Lee, that's great. Three month reads is a really good idea.

message 25: by Hilary (new)

Hilary | 2082 comments Hi Everyone, I'm Hilary and I live in North Northumberland in the UK not far from the Scottish border.

I have always been a very keen reader, even as a child I could get through a lot of library books, and don't restrict myself to any particular genre. I'm looking forward to seeing what the reading selections are and having a go at books I possibly haven't ever considered, or even heard of !

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I am really sorry but I have managed to delete the last comment (I am such a clutz!) It was a hello to Gemma and Hilary - was it you Elaine? Many apologies.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Hilary-hope you'll find loads of new reading ideas here

message 28: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) I don't think it was me, Lee.

But I will take this opportunity to say a big hello to everyone who's joined. Lovely to be part of a new group and seeing it grow :)

Janet (janetelaine) | 1 comments Hello All, I am from King Township, just north of Toronto, Ontario Canada. I read a wide variety of genres n love reading for the sake of reading.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Janet, nice to meet you - I hope you'll find loads of inspiration for your reading in our group.

message 33: by Mark (last edited Aug 18, 2013 02:59PM) (new)

Mark Willen Hi..I'm Mark and I just joined. I seem to live on the other side of the pond from most of you -- in the US in Maryland, just outside Washington. Fortunately, many of my favorite authors are Brits -- Jane Gardam, Penelope Lively, Ian McEwan, Ian Ranking, John LeCarre'. I'm recently retired and trying to make up for too many years of not reading enough good fiction. Hope the group will help keep me pointed in the right direction.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Mark - lovely to have you with us - Penelope Lively is one of my favourite authors too and John Le Carre is our monthly author for October.

message 35: by Akylina (new)

Akylina | 2 comments Hello everyone :) I'm Akylina and I live in Athens, Greece, where I study English Literature and Linguistics. I've loved reading ever since I can remember myself and I love reading all different kinds of books (fiction, non-fiction, comics etc.). I also love languages and Japan very much :) My favourite books are too many to name here, but some of my favourite authors are Edgar Allan Poe, Haruki Murakami, Enid Blyton, Oscar Wilde, Jodi Picoult, Katherine Mansfield and Jo Nesbo. Nice to meet you! :)

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Akylina - nice to see you here :o)

message 39: by MaureenAnn (new)

MaureenAnn Hi everyone, I'm Maureen and live in Sidcup, Kent UK. I'm a semi-retired translator and bookaholic, looking forward to making some more time for reading. I read in both paper and on the Kindle and also just got into audio books. I look forward to joining in discussions with this group and being introduced to some authors I wouldn't normally choose myself. Nearly forgot to mention, I enjoy cozy mysteries, historical fiction and the classics.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Maureen, lovely to have you with us

message 41: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (theelliemo) Hi Maureen, welcome to the group :)

message 42: by MaureenAnn (new)

Hi Lee, I don't think I have come across anyone else who has read "The Raw Shark Texts", I read it a few years back and found it one of the strangest books I've ever read, and yet I liked it. Not sure I understood it though, but then again, I'm not sure I was meant to...

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I love it - the only other people I know who have read it are the 2 people who I gave it to as a present - they loved it too.

message 45: by Shirley (new)

Shirley I love reading books that are a bit different!

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Me too - it's so nice finding a great book that is like nothing else you've ever come across before.

Welcome Maureen! Hope you enjoy the group!

@Shirley and Lee - I really want to read the Rawshark Texts - I keep meaning to buy/loan a copy but then forget again! It looks really intriguing..

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Act on that thought without delay, Laurel - you won't regret it :0)

message 49: by Shirley (new)

Shirley Laurel, it certainly is intriguing, and probably different from anything else you have read, it certainly was for me!
