If you're anything like me you visit the library and borrow galore. What have you borrowed from your library on your last visit?

I am getting ready to borrow Gone Girl from my library.

The Cuckoo's Calling is next in line at the library for me. I just finished Dark Places and am currently working on Harlem Renaissance: Five Novels of the 1920s. My library is really wonderful... It is easy to reserve books online and only about a mile from my house.

I think a reread is in order which may be just the right book for my mood today.

Faceless Killers from Henning Mankell (one of the first Wallander's book, written in 1991).

I borrowed yesterday The Most Beautiful Book in the World: Eight Novellas and The Shadow of the Wind and I don't know which one to read first :)

I'm so envious of you all having well-stocked English-language libraries nearby! Here there is only a small selection of "foreign literature", which is why I've being reading so many Kindle freebie classics of late!

Before my book club last night I went to one of my libraries to pick up my reserved copy of Howard Norman's new book, I Hate to Leave this Beautiful Place and also brought home, The Ghost Bride and I Funny A Middle School Story by James Patterson.

Where do you live, Pip?

San Sebastián, Northern Spain, very near the French border. We have the Cantabrian sea to the front, and the start of the Pyrenees just behind.

Unlike many other parts of Spain, the North is very green and lush. All in all, a beautiful place to live, despite the lack of an English library!

Although we have traveled through Spain quite a bit we have never been to your region. Maybe next time and we can meet.

just 'borrowed' a Nora Ephron book through my app Live-brary.
the book is called "Heartburn" and was made into a movie starring meryl streep and Jack Nicholson. so far the book is a good one.

I loved both the book and movie based on the book Heartburn. It is loosely based on Nora Ephron's breakup with Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame.

It may surprise you to know that Mandy Patinkin - love him in Homeland - originally was hired for the part Jack Nicholson played.

Tomorrow I get to pick up my copy of the new book The Returned by Jason Mott which has a very eerie premise.

I just took out Young Goodman Brown, which was a suggestion by our very own Jen on another thread here. It sounds scary so we shall see. :)

I'm lucky because my mom's a librarian so I get to borrow extra books sometimes but I try my best to follow the rules. And my choice in books that she should order is a bit higher than others. :P

Anyways I'm only borrowing one book now for some reason (which isn't much like me):

Oh I envy you all! In my city there's not many library, and the collection is rather...obsolete. The only library I frequently go to is my campus' library, from which I borrow textbooks to help me finish my bachelor degree. Sad.

I'm studying psychology, and expecting to graduate at the end of this year. Hopefully I can go to other country who has more complete and accessible library for my master degree, though, so...I'll just keep studying hard and hope for the best! :)

Our tiny town in MI (2200) is lucky to have a library that is in a consortium of 60+ other libraries, so I put holds on most of my books. Right now I have:

I just borrowed The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight from my library today. I also have Pegasus from my library.

I suggested this awesome idea to my mom today for the library and she agreed to do it. So basically it's called "Blind Dates with Books" - I kinda stole it from someone on pinterest :P Don't worry I told my mom it wasn't an original idea from me. Anyways there's a shelf in the library with a ton of books that are all wrapped so you can't see the cover or it's title or author. On the wrapping it has words describing it like plot-twists or fantasy and what not. So you just go and grab a book from there without knowing what it really is and check it out from the library. :D

What do you guys think? I'm really excited about the idea.

Hi, Sammy! I have heard of that too. I think it's a great idea! Especially around Valentine's Day. That is a very cool idea. Let us know how it goes!

I've never heard of a "blind date with a book"! Sounds like a lot of fun. Of course, I asked a librarian for recs a month or two ago and got half a dozen and haven't read a single one yet, so who knows when I'd find the time.

Am I the only one that noticed that they used "it's" instead of its" in that first picture? In a library, too! You'd think SOMEONE would have noticed and fixed the display.

Well, Goodreads has a "random" option in their sort by fields. You could set it to a random sort of 10 books/page and pick something on the first page.

In another group I'm in, they have a challenge called "help me decide." Everyone creates a shelf of books to choose from and every two weeks the mod puts out a list of who picks for whom. You go into the other member's shelf and pick 3-4 books and then they choose one of those books to read. Since people tend to pick their favorites, it's generally a great way to find a great book. It's been really fun so far, though I admit I'm shamefully far behind at the moment.

I just checked out Pnin and The Cats of Tanglewood Forest from the library today.

I was also offered Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking but I know I'm not going to have enough time to read it in the next couple of weeks so I canceled my hold and went to the back of the queue.

And darn.... Just realized I forgot to return Pistol Packin' Madams: True Stories of Notorious Women of the Old West when I was at the library, so now I'll have to make a special trip to get it back before it's due.
