In 2014, I am continuing with my challenge to attempt to read a book from every state in the USA!

I will be posting a master list and making a new post each time I read a book set in a particular state :-)

States read: 30/50

Like this challenge Becca. Complicated to me - i don't know half of your states!!!!
I could do something like that for each state of the European comunity ....

I like the idea of that... but I have been working on my own Read the USA challenge for over a year now and am only halfway through!

message 9: by Jo (new)

Jo (new_romantic) The Snow Child for Alaska.
A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley for Iowa... I think... Let me check... Yep that's right :) you have defo got to read this it is an awesome book :)

Pink Amazing challenge, though it looks tough. Living in the UK I barely even know the names of states! I could do an English version, with the different counties across the country, but don't think it would be quite the same :)

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks everyone :-)

@Laura - I might try a European one sometime! It sounds pretty interesting.

@Leslie - It is much more difficult that I thought so I might have to run over into 2014.

@Jo - Thank you I'll add it to the list I keep :D

@Pink - I live in the UK too but I'm a bit obsessed with America. It would be so tough to do counties! I'm your neighbour to the north ;-) so I don't know anything about English counties.

Pink Counties would be really hard (I'm in Essex by the way) Hopefully you can get some suggestions for help with the states, good luck!

I love the Essex accent lol :-) Thank you!

Leslie | 16369 comments Becca, let me know if you want suggestions! For example, I read Gilead by Marilynne Robinson for Iowa (which I see you haven't got yet). A good contemporary novel (not a mystery like most of mine!)

Aw thanks Leslie, that's so kind of you! :-D

A very interesting list, I will keep a lookout for books set in the states you haven't done yet. That's what I love about Goodreads, the fact that you can easily check where the book is set.

Thanks :-) Same because I usually forget where the books are set once I read them! I'm a Goodreads librarian so I try to edit the locations of books I read that don't already have them noted down.

Well, at least you get to check off a new state by reading it! ;)

Melissa | 74 comments Very cool idea, I might have to consider a challenge like this

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

@Leslie - so true! That's what I kept thinking as I was reading it lol :)

@Melissa - Thanks :D If you do end up trying it (or something similar), good luck because it's harder than it looks, haha!

message 23: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Good luck becca! :-) I hope u make it through your challenge.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

The Edge of Always managed to hit 2 states I haven't read - Virginia and South Carolina :) I will be attempting to read another book that is set in one of these states though, as I want to have read 50 different books for the challenge.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Continuing with this challenge in 2014 :)

I am finding this is the most difficult of all my challenges...

New icon photo?

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I am finding it difficult too. Yes it is :) took it today, was liking how my hair was sitting after leaving it to air dry ;)
