Lamb discussion

I thought this book would be real blatantly disrespectful towards organized religion, which I'm personally not a follower, but it really wasn't. It seemed to me that Jesus still held his values and the author left all of the fun to Biff. I think anyone can and should read this story and enjoy it how bout you?

This still stands as one of my favorite Moore books. I'm sure some people will be offended by it - even without reading it - but I thought it was terrific. Biff has to be one of the best anti-heroes!

Yep Biff was a straight up Champion.

Despite the vulgarity and crassness of Biff, I thought there was something incredibly sweet about his friendship with Jesus. This novel completely took me by surprise with how non-malicious it was even though it could have easily taken that route.

I didn't find it offensive from a religious standpoint; I found it offensive from a literary standpoint. The funny one liners throughout were far from funny. The main character never grew or changed, and isn't that the entire point of a fiction novel? Maggie and Joshua were caricatures that weren't likable in the least. The list of things I hated about this book goes on and on. I will never read anything by Christopher Moore again.

I loved this book, my favorite C Moore, and I lent it to a very religious friend of mine, who also loved it and said "he knows his Bible". What struck me was the friend aspect- Biff didn't believe in what Jesus was setting out to do, but he was loyal enough to join him. And I thought many parts were funny while others were so so sad.

One of the best books I ever read.

I'm clergy and this is one of my favorite books. It's ridiculously hilarious, and frankly a lot of it is actually plausible - at least in my mind. I shared it with a youth group, which loved it as well.

It's a great book, as are all of Christopher Moore's. My all-time favourite is Blood Sucking Fiends, but I read this one a few times. I just love Biff. Maybe C. Moore's humour isn't for everyone, but he sure cracks me up.

Best Moore book ever. I don't know who I would choose to meet, if I could only have 1 choice Jesus or Biff? HaHa Biff by a mile. I found my 12years of catholic schooling did make this book an easy read because I am very familiar with the doctrine. BUT I think anyone would enjoy it.

I personally loved the book. I literally laughed out loud so many times that my fiance got annoyed. Of course, I had to read her those parts to explain my laughter.
It was a tongue-in-cheek, good natured read and one I highly recommend to everyone but the most easily offended.

This is my all time favorite book. It was actually recommended to me by a former nun. I know a few other people who say that former clergy recommended it to them. I recommend it to everyone.

I read this book as part of a book club back in 2003, I loved it. I felt it was the best, most accurate idea/ rendition of the time between Jesus's unaccounted years. Moore kept it funny without really insulting any religion. But I am sure there are those who would disagree

I enjoyed the lively story and laughed out loud a couple of times. From the perspective of a pagan who has broken fortune cookies with Jewish friends on christmas there was nothing offensive about it.

I know very little about religion so I can't say whether it was offensive or not but from a novice point of view it actually taught me a little about Bible stories I never knew! I can understand some Christian references now, hooray!

I absolutely adore this book! In my lifetime, I have gone from Presbyterian to Anglo Catholic to Roman Catholic and I find this such a fantastic romp in fantasy! I couldn't read it on planes because I would laugh so hard out loud and I didn't dare read it in bed, the light would never get turned out!

Take it for what it is: a fabulous mind with a flight of fantasy giving us the gift of 'what if'!

Absolutely the best book I have ever read. It is simply amazing! I love his style, like he is talking to you personally. Moore is hysterically funny and his imagination is too wicked!
Lamb was my first Moore book. I have since read others but Lamb is by far the best!

I am a Christopher Moore fan, but this little book is a classic in its own right. Lamb is part of my permanent library. The genius of Moore in this secretly reverent romp is that we tend to see young Jesus as a lovable character (as opposed to an unapproachable legend). As a result of Moore's story, the End sneaks up on you, slips under your defenses, and you feel Biff's shock and loss as if is is your own. Unforgettable.

I really enjoyed this book. I don't think it was meant to be a commentary on religion. Rather, I think it was meant to be exactly as it appears, a fun take on an old story. I found myself taking to Biff's character more and more throughout the story. He went along and protected the savior of man from men and fell apart when he felt he failed. It was a humorous way to look at a story that the western world is very familiar with. I found myself chuckling outloud (odd stares from strangers studiously ignored...they just wished they had a good book to read) on more than one occasion. While it was not my first Christopher Moore book, it is my favorite thus far.

Not many books make me laugh out loud, but this one sure did.
You gotta love Biff and Mary had some good lines also. When you're reading it just remember it's all just bacon.

No pun intended, but, from a Christian point of view (I imagine), it redeems itself in the ending.

I look forward to seeing what Jesus thinks of this tale. He will probably laugh in different places than imagined. Hilarious!

I loved it Jeff so much I bought the faux leather bound, gold guilt page edged and red ribbon book mark edition.
Gifting it to a Seminarian friend lol.

This is one of the few books purported to make you "laugh out loud" that actually did make me laugh aloud. Superb, and not solely for the humor. There's a lot of subtle depth in this book, too.
