Time Travel discussion

For those times when you' feel like devouring tv series like a good book, what are you watching?

The only tv on my plate these days is:
*"Under the Dome" - (Stephen King) Part of a town finds itself trapped under a mysterious dome for days on end.
*"Falling Skies" - alien-induced apocalypse on earth

Battlestar Galactica (the re-boot obviously). In my opinion, one of the best sci-fi shows ever, if not THE best.

It's not scifi, but The Bridge is really good. Watching Falling Skies and of course, The Walking Dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep missing Under the Dome, so I'm meh about catching up. Really interested to see if Revolution comes back this fall, too.

Absolutely one of the greatest sci fi epics ever. Entertaining, powerful, soulful. Unforgettable.

Right now, the only thing I am watching is the lastest Abram's offering, Person of Interest. Its not the greatest show but there is something satisfying about every episode and it has the superb Micheal Emerson and as usual with an Abrams production, its all about the characters.

Stargate, a redo of old 'The Time Tunnel.'

Is Stargate a complete saga? Or another cancelled series with a cliffhanger ending.

Tej, if I am not mistaken, aren't you also a Star Trek fan? I am as well, with Deep Space 9 being my favorite series. Both BSG and DS9 are available in their entirety on Netflix, for those interested.

The only sci-fi show I am currently watching is Continuum, which is time travel, so it's not for this discussion. I don't watch much TV anymore, having given up cable several years ago. I have found most sci-fi shows to be a bit of let down (and my opinion of Continuum changes from week to week). Maybe I can get some good suggestions from you guys here.

Oh yes indeed I am, a devout trekkie :) and I agree Deep Space Nine was the most intelligent and epic sci fi saga of them all, rich in story and scope. All the trek series are entertaining in their own way. However, for newcomers to the universe i would recommend the more entertaining Next Generation and some Kirk episodes to start with as I feel the other later Trek series require familiarity with the trek lore to enjoy them fully.

I've been rewatching the Next Generation episodes I last watched when they were on television and Wesley Crusher was my age. He's as annoying as I remembered, but the series has more depth than I picked up as a child.

To follow on the Trek theme: Deep Space Nine. The first season is a bit weak. So is part of season two and much of season seven, and as with any show, there are a few stinkers even in the great seasons. I am a fan of the Original Series and TNG, but overall, I really think that DS9 was the best of the Trek series, especially for those who like their sci-fi served with a big dollop of political intrigue.

I also have a soft spot for Eureka. There's a time travel bit in the middle, however, so it doesn't entirely fit this thread.

Tej - I watched the entire Stargate series on DVD a few years back. It's a lot of fun and didn't take itself too seriously. Good characters and some pretty solid writing. They wrapped it up nicely, although there were a two spin-offs that received the unceremonious axe after a few seasons. Those weren't nearly as good as the original, however, so I pulled the plug long before the network did.

I totally agree on DS9, Corrie. Every now and then I think how nice it would be to have a new DS9 to watch, having watched all of them (except for a few that kinda sucked) multiple time. The only other show I get that nostalgic for is Lost.

Ooo. That sounds interesting even if it was poorly-done. Is there any way to watch it other than buying the series DVDs?

I've never seen it re-broadcast anywhere (though it would be a good choice for the SyFy Channel), so I guess DVD is the only option.

Keir Dullea put in an excellent performance, and the series had an Asimovian feel to it, which in my book means is eminently worth watching.

yes, yes! Firefly is my fav, every single episode. I hate them for not making more.

Gah! I just saw a trailer for it the other day while at the movie Elysium. OMG, so cool looking! Hubby and I are both up for that!

Hubby was talking to me when it came one and I smacked his arm and pointed to the screen. He shut up quick, then we both grinned. Hellsya!

Oh yeah, me too. Agents Coulsen rocks...have you looked at the short movies on the Marvel feature blu rays? Some of the them feature the Agents in action and one of them in particular, featured Agent Coulsen in his element. Way cool.

Yes. Time travel. That's exactly what it's about. Hurumph, hurumph...

Thor uses the Bifrost, which opens wormholes, which sort of deals with the theory of relativity, which touches on time travel... so there! Ha! Guilt by association.

And Agent Son of Coul totally rocks!
